TL;DR - I like gothic post-punk, I think cyberpunk ponies in a gonzo future would be cool, and yay for Chapter 9 of my fic!
Do you kids know about Siouxsie and the Banshees? Sisters of Mercy? Joy Division? The Church? ...No?
Sorry, I must sound like a pretentious asshole. I won't presume that I'm some "hip old person" enlightening you younger folk (if you are in fact younger...which is likely the case) but I feel like sharing one of my ear worms as of late. It's not my favorite from the band, but this is one of their most popular songs. The genre is gothic post-punk. It's moody, smoldering, sexiness on an apocalyptic level.
Here's Sisters of Mercy's Lucretia, My Reflection --
The dramatic (almost cheesy) delivery of the dark lyrics is what does it for me. Makes me want to dig out my old leather jacket, put on an excess of hair gel, and walk around with sunglasses at night.
No, I wasn't a goth in high school, but I wished I was!
Seriously though, this kind of music is what went hand in hand with dark speculative fiction stories from the 80s and early 90s. This song gave me an idea to write a dystopian cyberpunk thriller set in a gonzo future, with fax machines and command-line terminals. I was thinking it'd be awesome to do a ponified Blade Runner fanfic with Rarity or Twilight Sparkle as the main character. I feel silly thinking that though because I haven't actually finished watching Blade Runner. As if I need to dilute my inspiration. My FlutterDash fic is demanding enough!
Speaking of which: Chapter 9 for What They Expect to Give is up! I'm so happy!! I feel like I'm getting into a good rhythm with this story. Gonna work on Chapter 10 in a bit here.
I survived hubby's b-day despite feeling icky. I missed a dose of my meds and I was tired and nauseous all day. He had a good time though, and so did our son, so that's what counts. Ended things with The Walking Dead and Chinese food. It was a pretty good day.
For Chapter 10 I have to draw on some musical inspiration to get a special portion done. I'm considering buying a book on music to help me, because I'm not a musician, but it might not be necessary. We'll see!
