    Daily wordcount script

Disclaimer: This is mainly for me to keep this at hand and not lose it.
This is a small, simple script that registers the total wordcount in a determinate folder per day. The output format is a space-delimited CVS file:

    64487 04/04/2016

The full script, which for now is a .bat file, is:

    LORE: Moons.

Two or three months ago, while I was writing something and someone mentioned months.
"Hey!" said the little voice I've come to love and hate "Moons dude! They say moons!"
I punched the little voice in the face and went to work on it. The result was this. Start reading in the lower right corner.

Second divagation on A Mare and Her Dog.

EDITED: Oh god the orthography was horrible. This was what happens when I forget to use the spellcheking.
(Hey, I could whine about this once a month! Yay!)
I take a little pride on being able to have somewhat original, yet sensical plots.

    Writing guides

For various reasons, I decided to make this to compile writing guides of various kinds. If you want something added, leave a comment or send me a PM about it.

LORE: Moons. · 1:24am Mar 25th, 2016

Two or three months ago, while I was writing something and someone mentioned months.
"Hey!" said the little voice I've come to love and hate "Moons dude! They say moons!"
I punched the little voice in the face and went to work on it. The result was this. Start reading in the lower right corner.
But to make it a little more understandable (You don't really need to read anything from this on if you just read the diagram), I decided to transcribe it into a blog.
Why did I do this? Do I plan to use it in any story? Not really, outside mentioning the moon names. I just like worldbuilding.

1: History, math, and disclaimers

For reasons already explained, I decided to divide the year in eleven moons, each lasting aproximately 44 days. While the variation can be of up to ten days, people treats them as 44 days long for the sake of convenience.
Other nations have other calendars, but most don't deviate much from this one. Or this one doesn't deviate much from others. You know how it is with history, everything causes everything and nothing has an objetive beggining.
Due to this, the year is 484 days long, and due to old traditions (The Summer Solstice and Winter Lonstais) the Year's End and New Year celebrations are separated by a few weeks.
The "Solstices" are of more importance than most people realizes, as they are times when the sun and moon are quite literally jerked back into their propper orbits because deviation builds up over time. If this wasn't done, the astral twins could crash into each other, Equus, or fly off into space. And that's terrible.
And as a little bonus detail, the words "Moon" and "Luna" have some interesting history: The moon used to be called "Looan" (Luna Andere, "Moon's Moods") in old Equiish, which at the same time comes from an old curse used by those who had to keep it in check-- they'd shout "Plun Antharea!" at it at the top of their lungs, which translated roughly to "Moody rock". This is something that has trasceneded into modern Equiish as well, with "Moon" being a lingo of "Mood", which is how many call the moon phases.

2: Moon phases

Disclaimer: The names are plays on words and often gramatically incorrect. Real translation is, hence, impossible-- they are transliterations

Moon 01: Endara, "Peaceful Mind"
When the moon is most calm, with barely any magic built up and perfectly within it's path.

Moon 02: Darales, "Upset belly"
After some time, the moon passes near the sun's trail, and the residual magic in it upsets it's own magic field. During this time, rivers and even seas are far more violent than usual, even if the moon is visually identical.
Additionally, enchantments and curses tend to break in this time if not shielded properly or worn out enough.
This is the time when Nightmare Moon escaped, and the "Four stars" were pieces of the sun that she stole.

Moon 03: Lestaia, "Medicine"
The residual magic runs out, and waters are peaceful again, at least for some time.

Moon 04: Aialone, "Tear"
Named after a poem that became ridiculously popular. Said poem was about how in this Moon the angle of the Mare in the Moon and the abundance of rain made it seem like like Luna was crying enough for it to fall to Equestria. The name was, before that, "ianonee", "Many drops" This isn't marked by any magic change, but by the purely visual change of t.M.i.t.M.'s angle.

Moon 05: Nighta Mor
With the moon slowly building up magic, this is a period of wild magic being a calm and steady affair. Is in this period that, around two hundred years before Luna's exile, a zebra necromancer managed to enter a Griffin Warrior cemetery and used the wild magic to rise nearly two thousand of them which he used to completely destroy Snkndha -Aproximate pronunctiation of a name in Avian-, a griffin city-state, first luring the guards of the walls away by making recently dece- ased shout at their old friends, killing small groups , then razing it to the ground before the inner guards could mount a defense. In this time the moon has a slightly dimmer light, and Nightmare Moon is celebrated the day of the attack.
The etymology of this deserves explanation: "Nigd" was a slur that meant "Masturbation", and comes from "Ine Gode". "Ine" meant "Private affair", and "Gode" Night. However, "Sneed" was a word that existed both in Equish and Aviar, meaning "Macabre" in Equish and "Bones of a warrior" in griffin.
With all of this, "Snigd Amore", which was bastardized into "Nighta Mor", could be loosely translated to "Tenebrous Atraction", "Macabre Dance", or even "Necrophilia", when taking both languages into account.
The term is believed to have been coined by Fair Trail the Traveler, a pegasus who helped in the battle and was one of the few to survive it
Ironically, the word "Nightmares" comes from this one, and "Night" from "Nightmares".

Moon 06: Amore, "???"
The origins of the name are unknown, as the preclassical word word Amore comes from this Moon and not the other way around. The most accepted theory is that it comes from "Moore", a old celebration that happens during this Moon and is now known as Hearts and Hooves Day.
This period is marked by the moon's glow increasing and decending due to a chemical reaction of the dusted crystals that coat it's surface caused by the magic in said dust that slowly builds up, and could be described as a breathing of sorts as the crystals shift in position. Said variation in light has been compared to a beating hearth several times.

Moon 07: Orenda, "Ice Gaze"
The reproductive season of Ice Faeries is during this Moon.
Ice faeries are carnivore, magic insects with a intelligence slightly above that of crows, that hunt by swarming upon their prey and freezing it to death with the icy wind of their wings. They are believed to be of the same family as parasprites.

Moon 08: Dandas, "Sweet surprise"
Its during this moon that the fruits of Amore, if there are any, start becoming noticeable in the bellies of women. While it isn't a formal event, its common for small carnivals to be done in this time by civic institutions.
This is also considered to be a time of rest, and the few times that other kingdoms have declared war on Equestria in this period the response has been quick, efficient, and ruthless.

Moon 09: Astera, "Initiate"
Following the discovery of new fatherhood, stallions of all trots of life walk the streets in an unstoppable tide to have their fears placated by someone of trust, generally a parent, and to prepare their homes for the new occupant.

Moon 10: Rane, "Preparation"
In addition to new citizens in the way, Anere draws near, and terribly electric storms with it. It isn't strange, in this period, for auroras to appear at random, often from the Crystal Empire, extending all over Equestria and beyond. By the end of this moon, its a common sight to find windows blocked by furniture.

Moon 11: Anere, "The Mood"
The time when it's the hardest to control, just before being reset in the Winter's Loonstice, also known as Year's End.
The electric storms, combined with the snow, have made this moon into one heavily associated with kindness to strangers.

And with that I am done. Why didn't I post this before? Because I am lazy.
