Applejack's Day Off review · 9:11am May 29th, 2016
Another week another episode. This time we see Applejack having issues with getting enough time to spend an afternoon with Rarity at the Ponyville spa. It was an interesting idea to put these two together again, since the last time was back in season 4 with Trenderhoof. That episode had a lot of comedy as well as a few fourth wall breaks and a pretty good message. Mainly, being yourself and people that are similar and like you for you will naturally flock to you.
This time it was about having someone with a fresh perspective come in and suggest ways to improve the methods you use to get things done. An important message to be sure. My thoughts on the episode below.
I wasn't as big a fan of this episode as in earlier installments this season. It felt like a season one episode. Don't get me wrong I liked the first season but the development of Applejack's and Rarity's character have changed a lot since those early episodes. The only one I felt was still true to her character in this episode was Twilight. She still loves those lists and is still obsessed with doing things by the book. I somewhat wish that the episode had focused more on her and Spike's attempts at feeding the pigs and not so much on what I personally feel was a weak moral between Applejack and Rarity.
It wasn't all so bad. The comedy was very entertaining, particularly Rainbows denial of liking the 'frou-frou' spa treatments. It really shows just how much Rainbow has softened/ let her softer side come out. That's about it for what I consider to be the least best episode from this season. Next time, we're going to spend some time with a certain timid pony. yay
