Hey, Twilight.

So, I got your letter. Everyone’s letter, actually. Few months late, I know, but I see you were expecting that. It really means a lot that you would all still think of me even after all this time. I know I’ve been thinking of each one of you for a while now.

Listen, uh… this recording is addressed specifically to you, Twi. I’ve written a reply back to the rest, but you’ll be the only one who receives this message. I don’t have a lot of time either, so this will be pretty brief. Princess Luna will give you the specifics on security clearance, just make sure you’re alone when you listen to this.

First off, you heard correctly from the Colonel: I am, in fact, on active duty. But don’t let the whole “special operations” bit worry you. Right now, I’m deployed out of country to handle some delegations with a bordering nation – really simple stuff. While I can’t get into the specifics, I can say things are… a little strange.

Well, let me backtrack. So yeah, being outside DIRE’s been pretty nice. It’s nice to be able to get out and see the world, even if it’s, you know, for political stuff. The past few months have been a bit of a rush though, and most sight-seeing’s been behind glass – usually on a plane. The operation I’m on now lets me stretch my legs a little, but I’m still stuck behind a desk most of the time when on the clock.

It’s weird, really. You would think the way I was built, the military would’ve wanted me in combat. Not that we’re at war or anything, but it certainly shocked me when the Colonel said I would be serving ambassador duties a few months back. I mean, sure, I was taught some of that stuff – I even gave Princess Luna a whole schpiel from a script when we first met. But… I don’t know. Something feels off. Like I was built for a purpose, and I’m doing anything but fulfilling it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I’m just a little surprised, I guess.

Anyway. I suppose we’re both kinda doing the same thing, huh? You working things out between our worlds, and me out here doing stuff on the homefront. Though I bet you’re probably a little better at the whole delegation thing than I am. All I do most of the time is read from a script, relay messages, or discuss policy – and I can’t tell you how boring it all is to me. Seems way more up your alley than mine. Let me know if you’d be interested in trading places, yeah? At least I could sit my happy metal butt under Celestia’s sun rather than dealing with things out here. Heh… never knew the rain stretched this far north.

By the way, thanks for the last part of your letter. It’s been hard, not being able to talk to you guys. But it really helps knowing you all have been thinking of me. It also helps knowing I can safely call you my friends, even after all this time. You have no idea how much that means to me.

I think you’d be kind of proud of me, actually! I’ve met a couple ponies on this trip that I’ve connected with pretty well. I don’t know if you’d call us friends exactly, but we sit and chat over lunch whenever we get a chance. Maybe when this operation’s done, we can spend a little more time together. I don’t know, it sounds kinda silly saying it aloud, but it is nice having someone to talk with every now and then. I know I need to make some friends this side of the fence eventually anyway – it’s not like I can cling to memory forever. Still, it’ll be nice when I can speak with you all again.

So, uh… guess I’ve rambled on long enough. There’s one last thing I want to mention – the main reason this recording is marked classified.

By now, Princess Luna should have spoke with you. It’s… all still very confusing. The Colonel hasn’t said much, and the Princess even less. Considering the nature, I feel like… I don’t know – like somepony’s playing a really bad joke on me, or something. In any case, telegram back as soon as you’re up to speed.

I hate that our first conversation after months of silence might be over something like this, but I know it needs to be resolved. And for what it’s worth – for whatever reason, I don’t even know – I’ll feel more comforted knowing you’re involved. I trust you, Twilight. Enough to share this with you. I don’t know what you’ll think or what you’ll have to say on the matter, but I’m looking forward to hearing your input.

Alright, I gotta go. Be sure to tell the Princess I said hey, and hopefully I’ll talk to you soon.
