Hey, remember that thing I wrote?

The rough, experimental little piece about the pegasus tribe? Well, it's now a polished little piece in its own right. If you liked the early version, give this one a read, upvote, and comment. More words to follow, soon.

    Hello gamers

I have been so quiet lately because I have been hard at work (also, I have some important happenings irrelevant to this blog) on some updates. One of those is a brand spankin' new story for Mother's Day. It has been in the works for a few years now. That's right, ya boi wrote a normal Mother's Day story. Probably.

    Catch the SFW flavor here:

    Reader interaction poll!

    Please check it out here.

Since comments are a little scarce and I’m new to long-form mature fiction, I wanted to do a quick survey. It’s all anonymous but it’s going to be very helpful because of the content slated to appear in the next few chapters. Your votes will help me gauge reader feelings and the intensity of how graphic things will be.

    Pretty Pony Poems

Lately, I have been going through various complete entries in Missing Pages that were too short to publish. I decided that "Just Weep" shouldn't be left to gather dust there. I've since published it as its own story with the addition of eight new poems about Celestia (and Luna) so that it is long enough to count as a one-shot according to the site's minimum wordcount rule. If you read the

    ICE STAR WROTE HORSE SEX

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

Yes. I did. Two horses having normal horse sex. It's a completely serious story, but I decided to go out of my usual skill area for April Fool's Day. If you've been following Stay Golden and you want a quick peek of what's to come, this story is for you.

It's also getting a lotta downvotes for not being porn. RIP in pepperoni.

This is important and you should read it even though I hate that this has to be the 101th blog even though it is very important and just how many times do I have to sate that? · 5:34pm Jun 26th, 2016

Hi guys, it's Ice and unlike some of my other blog posts which center around silly .gifs and notifications of new stories, I have something else to say that is becoming more and more important now that there are almost 150 of you.

I don't know why every single one of you guys followed me. Some because I'm cool or something but I know that most of you are here for my writing. It's rather obvious.

So did you follow me because you have read my writing and deem it good and want to read more or because you'll get to my stuff eventually?
What do you do every time a new Icefic comes out? Track it? Alright. Read it later shelf? Okay.

Both of those make complete sense. Maybe you're busy (aren't we all preoccupied with something at some point) or you'll read it when it's done (hey I do that too).

I understand that.

But then we're getting to the point of this blog, or at least on of the main points.

You click the favorite button.

'What else?' You ask, 'Ice I'm confused, what are you getting at?'

Stop for a moment and think. You just clicked the favorites button on what might be your new favorite Icefic! Isn't that great!?
No, not really. It's actually starting to greatly frustrate me. But why?

Well that's because so many of you favorite...but very few of you ever bother to upvote as well. Now before you close this tab or roll your eyes read the rest of this.

My ratings/stories look like they're failing because of my own followers and readers. Why?

Because none of you ever upvote when you favorite. This hurts a story so much.

To prove my point, I'll pull up an individual case:

Tomb Of Magic, one of my greatest works.

It currently has 45 upvotes.

It can also be found in 172 bookshelves. Are all of those favorites? No, of course not. I've seen my stories get sorted into all sorts of shelves before.

Are most of them favorites? Yes.

Most stories with the writing level of Tomb Of Magic as well as other similarities have at least 200 or so upvotes, not counting in author fame.

Let's say that 50 of those aren't faves. No, let's say 72 aren't. What does that leave us at?

100, obviously. That's how many upvotes it could have gotten, but instead it barely comes to 50. You guys are literally taking away proper feedback by doing this.

But you're going to say, 'Ice surely you don't up/downvote every story you read?'

Of course not!

Well then aren't I a hypocrite? No not really. Do you know why?

Because out of 170 stories that I read I won't upvote three to five of those.

I upvote more than I favorite, but that's just me personally. Back to the subject at hand.

Every time none of you upvote a story it makes my writing look worse and worse, even when some of the other writing related things I do suggest otherwise.

If you like my writing wouldn't you want to show that by clicking a simple button? A button that helps tell me what you think and is generally a decent measure of how well I'm doing?

We've seen an individual case of an Icefic that has suffered but what about multiple Icefics?

Arc one, as I call it. It's right on the front of my page.

I will list the upvotes received, and then the amount of bookshelves it's in. If you follow a similar rule to what I've done with Tomb Of Magic then you can figure out how many upvotes it 'should' have gotten or whatever you want to say.

This is where things seem to get weird too, I link and alert of new stories very often and not only are the upvotes slipping but now the views are as a result. If you like these stories so much don't you like to check out the continuations and sequels????

Seriously guys? :fluttercry:

You guys are also flocking to my most mediocre attempts at writing and bothering to upvote those rather plain little dramas and one-shots, so why can't you do it for the other stories of mine that you read?

Because of this not even a single good story of mine has made it to even 50 upvotes.

Not. One.

This has become more and more of a problem as there are more of you.

In fact I'm extremely tempted to pull any silly drabble from this site until something changes (or maybe just indefinitely). Now that just makes me feel like I'm dealing with silly children instead of readers. Is it so hard to click a button? Green if you like it and read if you loathe it.

Do you really want me to have to pull stories of all things? :raritydespair:

I've heard of underrated but this is simply ridiculous. :ajbemused:

The thing about those upvotes is they can often say weather your story is good in the same way MS Paint cover art generally says the opposite. They don't always mean the simple 'a lot of people liked it because it is merely' all the time. Think about a story you simply adore on this site.

I'm thinking about Princess Twilight Sparkle's 505th Birthday.

How many upvotes does it have?

PTS505B has 1,161.

Has my point reached you yet? I'll eave you with this food for thought.

Until then, as always feel free to share your thought in the comments while Icy continues to be sad, frustrated, and such.

Congrats....?

i followed you because your awesome

I just want to let you know, I'm not one of those people. My favorites library is reserved for my actual favorites. It's a pretty sacred place. Like you, I upvote almost every story I read, mainly because I only read stuff that really grabs my attention. I only downvote stories that I really dislike. Granted, I have only read a few of your works thus far, but I don't know why people would favorite before upvoting.

Sorry you're feeling down, but rest assured, I enjoy your writing.

4049932 I practice daily, and it's not that I don't feel appreciated I am annoyed that people don't bother to click the up/downvote button which tends to be a bit more meaningful than favorites, since many people favorite thousands of stories without serious consideration to what is in them. This has been going on for quite a while and I decided to address it now instead of waiting for a problem that could potentially get worse. Not posting announcements like this so readers can understand (insert topic of hypothetical blog) is too haughty for my tastes. I've also tried multiple ways to solve this before because I like to try to solve my own problems before openly discussing them like I did here. I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion this was a rambling and artless rant either. In fact, I was in the middle of writing when I decided to reply to this comment. :derpytongue2:

Don't worry. I don't know if you get notified, but the stories I've read from you I have pressed the like button.

I don't usually forget to upvote things, but when I do, I realize after I close out the tab and mentally kick myself.

4069855 You have mental feet? :rainbowderp:

4069874 No, but I've never let that stop me.

Imagine if you will, that you have a story with 30,000 upvotes and comments each, and in the comments' case, 30,000 on each chapter. Sounds like you're doing great with that story, right?

But what if I urged you to look closer?

The upvotes came in within minutes of the first chapter(s?) of the story being posted, and all of the comments are just "nice" or "I like this" or God forbid, "first" or "second" and so on. Not a single one on the story itself.

Does that sound like any of these people actually read the story?

Better question, what if more people than just the 30,000 did read the story, and took an interest in it, but just genuinely had nothing to say about it? Or felt that following the story was proof enough of their interest?

Does it invalidate their interest that they didn't upvote or comment despite reading the story and following it?
