A N T E A N
by Perique Blend, a Thestral from Old Colony

Sixteen hands high he is, three of me or more
This giant like a tree he is planted, solitary in the grass,
Does his size command--it must mean
Something, it must be some sign.
Sixteen hands high he is
His head must hold up the skies.

Cynewulf has written a beautiful poem about horses from the pony perspective, of which this is merely the beginning. I recommend that you read it once, and then read it again.

Thanks.

I wasn't sure exactly how tall ponies were in Silver Glow so I sort of shrugged and figured that honestly with how massive they are s/he (Perique) would overwhelmed and probs not care to be precise.

I figure she's about 5' at the tips of the ears at most, maybe not even that. I don't think I've ever said explicitly, to be honest.

4088241 has now run numbers on a better picture, and come to the conclusion that based on my scaling figures, Silver Glow is between 3'5" and 4'2" (104-127cm) at the tips of the ears.

4088168 Five foot even? Damn I was way off! I was thinking she came up to like about six inches shorter than that at most.

That's a guestimate--I have scaling figures I use, but I haven't bothered to measure them to figure out actual heights.

It's not a great picture, but that's what I use for scaling.

SO many scenes now. Like you have no idea

You can use whatever fits in your head.

There's a reason I'm not always specific with details.

Also I should note that it's Applejack that's Silver Glow-sized (actually, as an Earth Pony, she's probably bigger than SG, both in height and in bulk), not Cadance.

ETA: that probably wasn't the ideal picture to use, but it was the only one I happened to have already online.

4088192 It is hard to tell properly since the human figures is not standing straigth, but AJ's head (without the hat and the ear) is sligthly above the waist. The average human is around 160-180cm, depending of the country and the sex, the real average may vary.
Anyway, it would place AJ at about 3'. Not much more.

Yeah, when I pose them together, the tips of her ears are just about at the base of his ribcage, which probably puts them at maybe four feet, not five. I really ought to actually calculate that out before I start throwing out numbers. Thing is I'm really good at estimating small numbers, but none of the fasteners I work with have much more than a 36mm hex.

Anyhow . . . here's a better go at it. Angle's a bit off, which is because my router is also my camera. But the important thing is that they're toe-to-toe, and that one of her ears is against his chest.

So I guess the takeaway here is that I shouldn't just spout off numbers. :derpytongue2:

4088223 Used my measuring tape on myself. If I was that guy on your picture, the ear tip would be at about 3'6" from the floor. So yeah, something like 3'5" to 4'2" would be a good size for most ponies.

Huh. A bit taller then I'd imagine.

This fits the story so incredibly well. :pinkiehappy:

Why is a pony using a hand as a measurement?

4090703 because she's on Earth, and we use a unit called the "hand" when measuring horses.
