    Editing Plugs

I know that I haven't published anything in a while, but fear not: I have not been idle. I've had the pleasure of serving as editor for two of my absolute favorite clop authors on the site, Moon Dream's very own OTP of James Light and Hardcover. The former is the proud owner of the

So, I log on after having been gone all day, and I see this:

I'm not gonna lie, when I first saw that wave of red across the top of the screen, it scared the hell of out me. I was like, "What maniac just spammed over 100 comments on my story!? Leave me alone!"

But then I realized my story had hit the featured box, and it was actually scores of maniacs adding me to hundreds of libraries, so... cool. I don't really use the feature box, but I sure am glad the rest of you fools do! :trollestia:

Also, if more than a handful of people who downvoted my story did more than read the cover, I will take a commission, use the money from said commission to buy a hat, and then eat said hat. I love this site, but what a worse-than-useless feature....

Only downvotes I give are when I read the story. Right now, youre on my read later list, so the downvotes aint from me.

Make more of this it was awesome and I hope to see and read more like this from you in the future

A word of advice about the feature box, though: I read a comment somewhere on this site (I forget which one) that said that the order of stories in the feature box is randomised, so being at the top of the box may not be any more of an achievement than being in it at all.

4104473

I wasn't making specific accusations. Whenever you get around to reading the story, I hope you enjoy!

4104515

I appreciate it. It did take quite a while to write, despite the relatively short size, so don't expect anything right away. But I'm definitely brainstorming more story ideas.

I'm... pretty sure I wasn't at the top of the feature box? Thanks for trying to keep my ego in check?

The only time I ever care about the feature box is when I'm on it. And when I'm on it, the only reason I care is because of how many new readers it brings me. In that regard, I'm pretty darn happy with how things've turned out.

I just thought that it may be a good idea to mention that the order was random before something like that happened: I thought that you might be tempted to think of it as an ordered "top-ten list" because it happened to another author. Besides, you were new to the site so I thought it might be genuinely new and (somewhat) useful information.

4108342

lol I'm actually something of a veteran on this site; it's just this account that's new.

But thanks, dude. Sorry if I came off as snappy or whatever. I appreciate your taking the time to inform me.

The feature box isn't random, but the 'popular stories' list on the right, is.

Sadly, many people drive-by downvote based on themes they're not into. Kinda sucks, but what can you do about it? Honestly, I feel that adding a 'content' list with fetishes probably does a story more harm than good. Fetishy people aren't going to be turned away regardless of what's in there, but it gives those picky ones a reason to drive-by downvote when they see a theme they don't like, never giving it a chance.

Thought it was a nice story myself, but sometimes it felt like Celestia wasn't there and that Twilight was experimenting with an inanimate ponyquin. A bit more verbal interaction at times would be nice.

Kinda sucks, but what can you do about it?

You could get rid of the feature entirely. I'm not familiar with facebook, but don't applications like that often only have upvotes or like features? If I want to judge whether a story is popular or not, I look at the upvotes. If I want to judge whether it features a subject that people don't like or is by an author that people don't like, I look at the downvotes. Downvoting gives almost no new information but it does give a way for drive-by haters to ruin your ranking. I've seen stories with 800 upvotes get ranked higher than stories with 2000+ upvotes just because the latter had a few more downvotes by people who, frankly, probably didn't even read the story in the first place. Kinda stupid.

I was under the impression that the trigger warning/fetish list was at least as much to show people what they have to look forward to as it was to warn people off. I know if I see scat or watersports, that puts me off... but if I see futa and ball worship, that pulls me in. I don't really want to give LESS information on a story like this; what's really going to get people to downvote-spam me is if they think this is some kind of sweet Twilestia story or something and then end up reading 12000 words describing Celestia's massive heavenly balls.

I probably did go a little overboard with the description at points. It can be a bit difficult at times balancing sexual content with characterization/plot... I'm pretty sure my future works are mostly going to feature more characterization and dialogue, possibly even to the level of porn-with-plot at times, but I'm not making any promises just yet.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah. I kinda meant 'you' as in, 'what can the author do about it.' Nothing, at this point, except complaining to knighty. I do not think that the downvote system adds much either when it's used like this as it gives false impressions on stories that may be written very well but deal with unpopular themes.

And I get it. The triggers inform people of what to expect, which is a good courtesy and a nice thing to do. I just believe it has this negative impact as well.

Hope to read more from you.

...And I just realized that you're the fellow who wrote "Princess of the Stalls." Great story, by the way. Short, and not quite my #1 fetish, but very excellently executed.

Also, TheLandgrave is like a god. Cuori Intrecciati is sooooo good... it's almost a relief in a way. I don't have to worry about writing the best princest ever, because the title is already his.

Anyway. "Stalls" is an great story, the coverart is actually really good for all that it lacks color, and I'd love to see more from you in the future. (Your story didn't feature Celestia talking much either, but that's kind of understandable, given her circumstances....:trollestia:)

Thank you. :)

I wrote 'Stalls' specifically because I'm inexperienced, it's my first story, and the theme, by nature, would allow me to dodge awkward dialogue and interactions and such. I wanted to write something easy that I felt confident I could execute.

Glad you liked the coverart too. It was some practice sketch I drew 2.5 years ago, heh. When I finished the story I just wanted to publish it and didn't feel like having it sit around while I drew something new. Thought it'd do.

And I've been with TheLandgrave and Cuori the entire way as prereader/editor, so it's great to hear people liking it.

4108833

"Alicorn Milk" is my first clopfic and my second "real" story that I actually put real effort into, so I'm hardly a veteran author myself, but you've clearly got the natural talent.

I tried drawing once, and enjoyed it, and like to think that I was decent at it, but I eventually decided that, if a picture is worth a thousand words, that's okay, because I can write 10,000 words in the time it takes to craft a truly awesome picture. Also, in the future if you're feeling lazy you can always just steal somebody else's work off the internet like everybody else does, because it's super, super easy. :trollestia:

And I've been with TheLandgrave and Cuori the entire way as prereader/editor,

I've tried before on my SFW account to get him to let me help edit and/or proofread his work, but he didn't seem super interested. I guess I have you to blame. You're doing too good a job. :applecry:

I do not think I could steal some coverart when I'm perfectly capable of drawing just about anything myself. Guess it's a silly pride thing or something. :P I was just impatient, and I did sort of want to experiment with what something 'simple' could do, as the description also shows.

Also, you should totally write some princest fun if that's your thing (*wink wink nudge nudge*). Best pairing ever and there's not enough of that. I'm certain you can as well count on help in any way from either of us, if you'd like (though you should go with TheLandgrave as he can actually write well).

4108857
Oh? I don't recall turning away any help, though I am notoriously bad at maintaining contact, so if you didn't put forth extra effort, I probably just forgot.

As for me being a God, I'm sorry to inform you that I'm merrily blessed to be the servant for them.

Normally, your story wouldn't be something I would read, but I may give it a look.

Your Benevolent Dictator,
The Landgrave

4108929

lol You should check the comments on my actual story page. The masses cry for Twilestia while I beat them off, shouting "No! Princest is wincest! Princest is wincest!"

...I enjoy almost any supervillainess/princess pairing, but Lunestia is definitely a top pick, in part because of TheLandgrave's work. I'm still brainstorming, but if I continue in this "universe," I think I would probably focus on my take on Luna's POV, with her relationship with her sister being the main plot thread. That's just a gut reaction, though. Ponies will probably screw a lot of other ponies (and changelings) in the meantime.

I'm certain you can as well count on help in any way from either of us, if you'd like (though you should go with TheLandgrave as he can actually write well).

Goodness. That's quite the offer. I would be almost embarrassed to spend Landgrave's time on my brain scribblings, especially as how I'm desperately hoping that he'll write that sequel someday, and the stuff I'll write will likely be less literature and more smut by comparison.

I don't know. You're new at this, I'm new at this. Maybe we could try brainstorming ideas together sometime, either via PM or Skype or something? If you think that would be fun. Otherwise I'd be happy to have your help editing once I have a draft of something written, or to help edit your stuff in return. I'm not sure I feel comfortable asking Landgrave for help, though if he offers, I'm sure I'll accept.

Also, seeing as how you're bragging about your beast drawing skills, I looked up stuff under your username on derpibooru. Hawt. :trollestia:

4109041

I think (under a different account) I offered to help and you said something along the lines of "When I get an idea for a sequel, if I need any help I'll put out a blog post asking for it," or something to that effect. And I made another offer on your blog in the not-too-distant past, which wasn't replied to. I don't blame you; I just took that to mean that you didn't want any help.

I would certainly love for you to read my story, but if it's not to your liking, don't sweat it. It's definitely not for everybody. Part of the reason why there's, like, fifteen trigger warnings on it. But even people who didn't like the particularly fetishes involved seemed to enjoy it, so, I have hopes.

Your Perverted Sycophant,
Moon Dreams

I saw the comments, which is what prompted me to talk about princest.

And, sure. I'm willing to brainstorm and help in whatever way through whatever means. PM me. And I've dragged TheLandgrave in here already, so... too late. :P May as well get him involved now, hehe.

I did not brag! :X Simply said I'm capable, but did not speak of the quality, haha. You did search for artist:nalesia and not kaiku, right? As I sort of distanced myself from the latter.

4109081

Alright! I'm about ready to pass out (finished my 150,000+ word SFW horseword epic today, so pretty excited about that), but I'll try and shoot you a PM tomorrow if possible.

I DO actually recognize your work from... Landgrave must have recommended it at some point. It's one of those things where the only fault I can find is that there's not more of it. Fantastic. I appreciate the single-minded focus of your pieces. :trollestia:

(I know I do sound like a bit of a sycophant right now, but I'm a picky guy, it's true! But conversely, when I do find something that I consider quality, I like to give the creator credit where credit's due. Everyone should be appreciated for their genuine skill and hard work.)
