It was like Show Stoppers meets Double Dash meets a stereotypical beauty pageant (In that the older mares are trying to live their glory days through the fillies). But otherwise, it was an enjoyable episode.
I loved that it also made me think of Wacky Races and Speed Racer

Hey. Hey, guys. As of this episode, Twilight has now officially been an alicorn for longer that she'd been a unicorn (65 eps vs. 66 and counting). Yeah. Remember back when that was a big deal?

Yeah this whole episode was a swipe at those Parents who try to force their kids to do something they don't want to do because the Parents did it when they were kids, and then ruin their kids fun by getting into fights at the events

Er...
Well, to be bitterly honest, that was actually very, very disappointing. The moral was heavy-handed and unsubtle and they actually somehow managed to make it the Crusaders' fault for their older sisters being complete self-absorbed bullies! I suppose it deserves a few nods for doing surprising things by showing the Crusaders (for the first time) wanting to do different things from their role-models but I wasn't impressed by that episode at all.
The high-point? Derpy having won the 'most creative' prize all those years before! This is a trauma from which Rarity's self image has apparently never recovered!
The second high-point is Scootaloo's orange eagle-cart. I don't know if it's a winning prospect but it certainly is amazing to look at!
To me, this episode is a missed opportunity. There was a chance to have a real Crusader team episode with each of the three fillies using their own strengths to add something to a team-built vehicle that ultimately was something unique and fast whilst still retaining the traditions of the pony-powered box cart. Instead, it turns into a by-the-numbers vehicle for RD, Rarity and AJ's egos to mess things up.
No, sorry, not on my 'good episodes' list. Technically good enough but the story left me cold in the end.

Um... the writer did remember that this is supposed to be a comedy, right? I counted two or three lines that actually count as jokes, the rest was just telling a predictable, cliche story...
Such a letdown after last week.

I'll give the episode this much credit; it doesn't end up being like Fall Weather Friends. However, I feel the pacing of this episode was off kilter. It had a slow start, a mediocre middle, and then it had to quickly wrap up everything. The characters were okay in this episode, bar for Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow, and I was disappointed in the lack of character interactions with the CMC and their sisters. The plot itself is kind of standard. The moral, while nice and can be understandable, is kind of out of left field. I feel the moral should've been more about how wanting something so badly that you lose sight of what was important would've been better. The song was pretty good, but not one of the best. Not a bad episode at all, but I feel it could've been better.
Also, where the fyayk were the Mario Kart, F-Zero, and Wacky Races references? Seriously? Nothing at all? Lame.
Cheerilee's eye-rolling was perfect in this episode. You just know she's seen this nonsense year after year.
Unfortunately, can't say the same for Dash, AJ and Rarity. I feel like they were laying it on a bit too thickly with their lack of empathy for the kids. Especially the latter two: AJ going on all about appuls! and Rarity roadblocking everypony else.
