So... this is happening:
[Drama] [Equestria Girls] [Romance] [Slice of Life]
The Friendship Games are over, magic in the human world is once again under control (sort of), and Sunset Shimmer is looking forward to a nice, relaxing celebration with all her friends, both old and new.
Too bad she ends up stuck on repeat; living the same night over and over with no idea why and even less idea how to make it stop.
Forced to watch her closest friends live out the same mistakes again and again, Sunset must find a way to break the cycle before she herself breaks down... but is the solution as simple as it first appears, or is the wild Equestrian magic stirring in Sunset's soul a sign of something more?
I started writing this waaaaaaay back not long after Friendship Games came out, but various real-life circumstances kept me from making the type of progress I wanted to. Now that we're getting geared up for the newest Equestria Girls movie, I'm feeling a little more of my creative mojo flowing, so I figured now was a good a time as any to post this one and see what happens.
The first four or five chapters are already written, but you all know me: I make no promises whatsoever about update schedules or things like that. Real life can be a major pain sometimes, but it will always take precedence over my hobbies when it comes to what needs to be done.
Shout outs to a group of folks I bounced some early ideas off of: my brother-in-words twin possible clone a guy I respect a lot, Fervidor; the completely sane and in no way dangerous to anyone (no matter what that note scrawled on the bathroom stall of Sugarcube Corner says) Eyeswirl the Weirded; The ever-Adventurous (see what I did there? 
) DragonShadow; and last but not least, the man himself Bootsy Slickmane, whom in addition to thanking for his input, I also have to apologize to, because after he was gracious enough to permit the use of one of his awesome Sunset Shimmer vectors, I went and ended up using a different image altogether, 
One last thingamajigger: Music has had an incredible influence on this story, and as per my penchant for whimsical names as well as my inclination to make obscure references*, each chapter of One Night in Canterlot is titled using either the actual or paraphrased lyrics of a song. Some will be pretty obvious; other maybe less-so, but as we go I'll be dropping a video link or two in the Author's Notes in the interest of sharing some of the great sounds that helped me put this work together. In that tradition, the first chapter is titled 'Nothing Stays the Same for Long', which astute bronies will recognize as the opening lyrics to this little ditty:

I loved the first chapter. I've gotta ask though, what's up with Sunset's jacket in the cover picture? It looks like it's just floating there behind her, but maybe my brain's just not parsing it right.
