Welp *Throws out the canon* · 7:41pm Aug 20th, 2016

So much for my changeling canon for BM. Looks like those 99.9999% of fans who took the bughoars interpretation were right, so much for fae-hoars asshole interpretation.

I am not that salty honestly, just given how much I worked on the changelings this is an even bigger break in canon with the show than the Griffonstone episode. I had a good run with trying to canon-weld the story to the show but it was going to irrevocably break sooner or later. Not that I am not going to take useful material from the episode or anything, just little point in trying to remain canon. I think I'll cut off BM's show canonicity at Season 6 and write it as that, only including new elements from Season 7 if they are, well, actually any good. That said the song was pretty cringey for me, anyone else feel the same?

In story news, the Interlude should be out Monday and I am getting back to drawing Maps for the story again. I'm actually surprising myself with that. Heh, who knows, I might be able to get that old encryption game going again in Blogposts like I used to.

Well, at least we know Chryssie lets her kids crawl all over her.

I wouldnt worry too mmuch about trying to follow canon, theyre only throwing th episodes out to enjoy themselves and make money, for employment, instead of perfectly tracking absolutely every location, event, character, action etc like Pratchett ended up trying to do.

Best example was the Derby. Normal soap box racers are roller coasters, it has to be on average always downlhill from start to finish, and at one point the line of vehicles goes over one of the spectator bridges that from the ariel shot is clearly seperated from the actual track itself. Because it looked good.

Well, just go ahead and slap an AU tag on the story and we'll be good to go.

In other news, Titanfall 2 is literally Titanfall.

I figured you were building a bigger and better cannon there for the changelings anyway.
Wait, canon? Oh, I thought you were working on this for Handy:

You're world building on the scale of Weyland-Yutani here. I would be surprised or even disappointed if you tried to confine yourself to the narrow interpretation revealed in the show. Especially since the characters in the show are often shallower than the gene pool of hillfolk.

...Do I even want to know what they did? I know it was a changeling episode which means they probably took a giant shit all over anything that could even remotely resemble realistic motivations, sensible world building, and decent characterization (especially for Chrysalis) given their incompetence as of late. I feel like I'll probably be happier if I don't ask, but on the other hand I should probably know what they did if only because it will inevitably be thrown in my face at every turn.

4161406 Well to give you the short version, and I am spoilering this in advance so that you all know not to check the black tags before continuing.

Twi and Star go to empire to visit babycorn and generally annoy Shining and Cadence's happy marriage, probably. Genuinely not sure about that given that little hint in the last season that all may not be that great in that marriage, but I am probably reading too much into it. Spike comes with. Spike finds changeling who was birthed from an egg as a grubling.

Grublings are kinda ickydorable which was cool, but it seems to imply straight up that Chrysi is literally the mother of millions of lings, unless she's not and just raises them to be her army, but there was literally no implication of any other adult lings in that scene. For some reason the show's Ling, called Thorax btw and voiced by a dude, was born different and only wanted to be 'friends' especially after witnessing the mane six fight in Canterlot seasons ago. No idea how a changeling who is supposedly born evil, of an evil race from an evil Queen Mother and who had no concept of friendship could desire it. It's like a bee drone desiring love, makes no sense. Maybe I am wrong and changeling society is more deep than this, but it doesn't appear to be.

Derpiness ensues. And Spike can apparantly walts his way right up to the throne room with a ling in toe despite the Palace crawling with soldiers looking for the changeling and Spike. Maybe he learned teleportation from Best Princess, I don't know.

Cringe-worthy solo song ensues. Moral of the story: Y'all motherfuckers be racist as sheit and need to stop judging a vampire by their fangs.

... Wait.

In my case, I lean more mammal than bug for my changelings and that changelings give live birth, (otherwise there is no reason for Chryssi not to hang out in the Empire for a few years, grow fat and happy and then zerg rush those dopey motherfuckers with MILLIONS of lings if they're all just clutch birthed) and lean closer to myths about faeries than bug succubi. I feel the bug interpretation is actually more boring and the changelings less interesting if they can't have individual agency and motivation

4161262 Yeah, but harder.

That said the song was pretty cringey for me, anyone else feel the same?

Comparing it to his first song? Not at all. I suppose I'm in the minority who thought his song was decent. Not the best, but definitely not the worst

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

THORAX, HOLY SHIT THEY WENT WITH THORAX

THORAX IS A, SHE'S A

FUCKING SHAPESHIFTERS.

4161569 For casuals maybe.

God that song was awful, got 5 seconds into it and just skipped the rest. Sorry Spike.

Oooh! The encryption thingy!

I haven't watched any of this season. Trying to decide whether it is actually worth it or not. You and some of the other authors have set my standards to high. This is all your fault Handyman! ;P

Thorax is Drizzt of the Changelings.

Also Spike's only actually good song is on the Christmas album.

I think it was a good episode with a bad ending. They could have shortened some earlier scenes and cut the song entirely and had it be a much better episode.

I'd say that's what you get with new writers, but the best episodes of the season were both by new writers.

4161963 This is why I say this season is a mixed bag, there were some episodes I've loved if I try to ignore one or two things. But then you get some stinkers.

Thought the episode was solid up to and until the song. Would've much preferred meaningful dialogue instead.

D48

4161435 Well, it sounds like it was at least slightly less awful than expected, although I have to ask if they explicitly said changelings and/or Chrysalis were "evil", or was that just implied? Fortunately it sounds like most of the other stupidity like Chrysalis shitting out every last changeling (unless not-Thorax referred to her as his mother) was just implied, although I have to ask about the changelings being mindless drones since I saw another blog which said that there was no implication of the stupid hive mind (not that it has ever been implied, but idiots seem to like insisting it is real for some stupid reason).

4162254 "Well, I was raised by an evil queen." If Chryssi isn't his mother, she's still the one who raised him. And no there was no implication of the hivemind at all, thankfully. The are not drones like bees are, thankfully Thorax proves that, I just made the comparison since based on his upbringing, he really had no reason to have always desired something. Also its implied all Lings are evil, since when they hatch he was literally the only one smiling, every other one was angry faced and hissing up a storm. So yeah, evil probably, Thorax is probably a mutant or something.

That said the song was pretty cringey for me, anyone else feel the same?

Yeah, but that had less to do with the song itself, and more to do with his voice... Spike apparently can't sing worth dick without some kind of vocal accompaniment.

4162348 It's not their fault they're born with a built-in 'no homo' reflex.

D48

4162348 Well, that's annoying. It could definitely be a lot worse, but Chrysalis raising all the changelings is very stupid even if it's possible she isn't actually the mother and the whole thing definitely still infected with their stupid insistence on everything being either good or evil that has infected the show since the end of season 2.

I've always preferred stories that use the show as a basket of ideas rather than bend their own world building into a slinky to make it fit.

Eh it had to happen eventually, at least wittle warvae are so cute that it hurts. (And the cute hissing, can't forget about that.) :pinkiehappy:

Not sure I see the problem, if it's only the fact that they lay eggs instead giving live birth. Chrysalis could have just been visiting the hatchery, and nothing really points to it being her that layed the eggs, also Thorax is proof that they are in fact individuals.

The Spike song was cringy, but when you listened closer it wasn't actually that bad. I've enjoyed this season so far, even if a two or three episodes felt like fillers.

4161698 They fall twice now. WooOoOooo~

I honestly havent watched FiM since the start of 3rd season. Just reading the well written creations on this site to kill time.
I have no idea what's going on and I love it.
