Stuff I bought with my No Man's Sky refund: Meridian Squad 22 and Valley · 9:17am Aug 25th, 2016
Welcome back to the second and final edition of SIBWMNMSR!
Today, I'm going to be doing a short post, and this is for two reasons.
First, so far as Meridian: Squad 22 goes, there's... not a lot to say. I haven't gotten terribly far into it, but to be honest I don't really feel compelled to. It's been a while since I played an RTS that's felt so oddly bland. Everything just feels like "objects that launch attacks." There's no real flavor or impact to any of them, and a lot of roles appear to be filled exclusively by naval units which makes land battles a bit dull. I'll probably poke it a few more times, but I doubt it will take on much more than the flavor of cardboard.
As for Valley, the reason I don't have much to say is that Jim Sterling already did so:
The crazy thing is that I picked this game up blind off steam, expecting maybe a cute "walking simulator" puzzle/concept piece. What I got (as Jim discusses) was so much more. The game feels great both in mechanics and atmosphere. Absolutely grab this one if you have a chance.
P.S. It just struck me, but it's funny how in so many FPS games, we take life without a second thought, but the moment we have the power to return that life if we so choose, it suddenly takes on so much more significance.
Valley sounds pretty cool; I'm gonna try to get it.
P.S. If this is what you call short, then I REALLY need to make some longer blogs.
