I Asked For This · 10:21am Aug 29th, 2016

A quick breather from the normal multi-page blogs just to share a few words. :twistnerd:

Last episode, "Dungeons and Discords" was excellent. I'll be putting up an Afterthoughts for the episode sometime between now and Saturday morning, but I need to give this one a little more time to percolate in my brain before I know just what I want to say about it.

:rainbowdetermined2: In the meantime, I have finally been pulled away from Fallout 4 (temporarily) by a new game. From the picture above, you can surmise which one. My first impressions: the game is awesome! I haven't gotten very far... I'm still wandering around in the first zone of Prague, but I can already say that the game us utterly gorgeous, the stealth is slick, the setting is engrossing, and the character is very enjoyable to play. I love his sarcasm.

The evolution of the augmentation system is really cool. I love that the game starts you out as a fully-augmented Adam appropriate to what you could have built him up as by the end of the previous game, then gave you a good in-story reset that opens up some fancy new options. So far, I've only played around with Remote Hacking, but boy is that fun! The dialogue system is everything that Fallout 4 should have been but gave us a shallow imitation of instead. This is how you create a roleplaying game. The new crafting option is sleek and straightforward, adding a nice new dimension to your capabilities.

There are some real flaws, but they are minor compared to everything the game has to offer. The biggest issue is that the tutorials are terrible. I may be exaggerating to call them Batman: Arkham Knight PC-port level bad. Fortunately, you can totally skip the tutorials, and either experimentation or a quick look online will equip you with everything you need to know. There are also elements of menu navigation and keys which are unclear, but again I have been able to find what I need to know online. (For example: I had to go online to learn which key would exit watching television.) These frustrations can get in the way of enjoying the game, but only briefly. And there are hours and hours of wonderful fun that make them worth the annoyance. So while I haven't gotten far, I can already firmly recommend it.

In other news, Strategic Jordan put out two episodes of his Let's Read for Fallout: Equestria this weekend. Check them out if you haven't already.

I'll leave you with the latest Fallout: Equestria-inspired musical piece by Firestreak. Enjoy! :coolphoto:

Been salivating over the trailer and gameplay videos... and cursing my lack of funds to purchase a machine that will actually run the damn game in a decent fashion. I'm SO asking for this.

Huh wasn't gonna get it, but Kkat likes it so I'll give it a try.

Speaking of games, have you played Wasteland 2 (the original release or the improved Director's Cut)? I'm on a play through of WL2:DC right now with a squad of characters from FoE, it's a very nice game.

Mankind Divided came out and I didn't even notice :rainbowlaugh: I didn't even finish Human Revolution yet. Gotta step up my game.

That SFM is awesome.

Where the experimental Augs really shine is combat. The titan Aug is incredible and using the built in multi Taser is lots of fun.

Haven't gotten the new Deus Ex game, but here's a trick I came up with in the previous game that will probably still work:

If you're going for stealth, don't pick augments immediately after leveling up. Hold on to them. You don't know what's around the corner, and might run into a dead end with a terminal that's just above your hacking skill, a wall you need to punch through, whatever. If you hang on to your points, then you can grab the skill you need when you need it.

Damn, why is it that I like sci-fi games but Deus Ex does not interest me? I own two of the games and I have never even laid a finger on the discs.

I loved the original Deus Ex game. A decidedly "Am I stil human" story, but it was the first really immersive game I played. The stuff in it at the time went over my head though, being the wee lad I was at the time, but years later I would enjoy it again.

But then the other two games went the Ghost in the Shell movie route, and I didn't like them as much. But I liked Stand Alone Complex, again, the philosophy woven through.

Again, Deus has lot of nuance to it. It can get pretty... mind numbing to say the least if you're not there for that. Sci Fi tends to not do that.

Thanks for featuring my art :rainbowkiss:
