VINTAGE: ABC Put This Up Against The 1978 Super Bowl · 9:31pm Sep 4th, 2016

Discovered by local Sacramento resident Jesse Skeen, this was one of his first 1970s over-the-air broadcast discoveries, taped from the starting point and continuing until the tape ran out. It opens during the "Superstars" competition, then we go to the ABC Sports Magazine with Howard Cosell interviewing Melissa Ludtke (they converse about the appearance of female reporters in male locker rooms!) and the beginning of ABC Wide World of Sports with a motocross competition shot right on FILM, rather than videotape! ''Note the lo-fi audio from the network, this was a few months before network audio was finally upgraded.'' The broadcast was recorded off of KOVR-TV13 Sacramento, which is presently that town's CBS station.

And what's more, this broadcast retains its commercial breaks, network and station. It also plugs the revolutionary episode of The Muppet Show that featured the late Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev (more on that here)
