Protip: Don't let sick toddlers sleep on your lap. · 3:06am Nov 8th, 2016
Being a nerd is fun, most days. You get to play weird games with your weird friends. When most of your weird friends are married with kids, however, it gets a bit more complicated.
One of my friends was GMing her first game, and her husband and I both made characters late. This was the session we were to be introduced to the rest of the party. Their three-ish year old son was sick with something terrible, an they brought him with. Yeah, this gaming group meets in someone else's house, by the way.
I dunno why they didn't cancel this week, but they didn't.
Kid was tired and grumpy, as sick toddlers are wont to do. I was sitting on a couch, and was pretty much the only person who had any space to spare. I let him stretch out on my lap, so he could sleep in the relative comfort of not-his-bed.
I have contracted whatever illness he had; and let me tell you, it's fucking nasty.
Most illnesses I've had either showed their faces overnight, or ambushed me with incredible quickness. This one crept in over the course of the day. It was interesting to feel myself get sicker and sicker, but now I'm miserable; and I don't know if it's going to get worse.
