That moment when your laptop is a better wifi extender than the wifi extender your dad gives you · 3:34am May 19th, 2017
Seriously. Who knew that using a laptop from 2009 as a wifi repeater worked so well?
And on top of that, I can use network monitor software on it, and when I need to do work on the go, I just take the entire freakin' laptop!
Not to mention the fact that this is the same laptop I accidentally wiped the hard drive on and proceeded to create a triple-boot system on a 150 gig hard drive I bought for $2 at a thrift store.
I'd call this my win for the day.
If you want to know how I did it, it's literally just clicking the "mobile hotspot" button in the network selector in Windows 10, though it's also available in settings. Connect to the network you want to extend, and then connect your devices to the hotspot created.
Works for me, considering how my room's on the opposite side of the house from the router.
Not I!
It's good you're getting some utility out of that! Good on you!
4538241 I've actually been using it continuously since third grade. Up until I began my frenzy of scrapping and building computers beginning in Middle school, it was my main daily driver, even with its lowly single core It's been a good six or so years now since I got it sometime around 2011. I never kept track of when I got it, all I know is that its model was first manufactured beginning around 2009-2010.
(The date code on the bottom says it was manufactured October of 2010, but I'm pretty sure that it was first released the year before. Maybe.)
