A new site record. · 1:34am Jun 14th, 2017
Since I've finally finished The Spark to Light a Candle, I thought I'd take my own nostalgic trip and actually go through every single older story on the site, to find out if there's one that could potentially break my current record for "Longest time between the posting of first and last chapters." To do so any time in the near future, a fic would have to be older than mine.
Turns out there are two strong contenders! There are many incomplete fics older than mine, but only two that have updated within the last three years.
Here they are:
Weirdly, they're right next to each other (#435 and #436) even though they're totally unrelated. I haven't read any of either of them. Maybe I should!
Amazing.
I remember when I read realy long fics on this site. Now I just don’t have the energy for it, unfortunately. (It’s funny, actually; I used to read short novels and long fics, but nowadays it’s the other way around.)
I mean, look at Pony Gear Solid. 253K words? That’s only about 10K words shorter than Ulysses.
Definitely so for PGS! It’s excellently written, and you don’t need to know much about the Metal Gear series to follow along (though some basic knowledge of the games’ premise is recommended).
Actually, I think I recommended PGS to you once in a journal’s comments some time ago. Or was that someone else?
Anyway, PGS is semi-regularly updated – say, at least once every few months at the most – and the author says it’s approaching the climax, so don’t worry about it getting much longer.
Eh, seeing how you actually did have it marked as Complete originally before you came back with more chapters, a tad lopsided odds, I'd say. (If I recall correctly, that is)

What, Spark to Light a Candle? No, that's never been marked as complete before this. Ember's was, for a while, but it's a much younger story.

Ah, might've mixed up stories then. Quite possible.
Haven't read the Metal Gear one, but First Pony View is...
Highly decent, I guess is a good way to put it?
The author's clearly poured his/her heart and soul into it, I mean, but I've frankly and literally seen dead frogs move faster then its pace. That, and a whiny and milquetoast protagonist it's hard to give more then one fig about.
The world and supporting cast is good, though. And it's beautifully illustrated, something so rare on the site I'd give it a go just because of that.
I'll take you up on that!
...Check back in a few years, see if my story's complete by then.
