    I'm still alive.

Not much to say, other than I'm still alive and still intermittently working on TRM's sequel. People keep asking me about it, so I figured I should post something.

    Progress Update

It's been a while since I've posted anything about TRM's sequel and I've had some people send me PMs or post in the comments asking about how it's going. Well, I've got some bad news and some good news (well, better anyway :P)

    Bad news first.

    A Royal Problem

Whelp, I know I'm supposed to be working on the sequel to TRM, but I had to do a one-shot based on A Royal Problem. Trying my hand at a super quick super short story based on an episode, literally wrote this up in a couple of hours, bit different than what I've been doing, hopefully people will like it. :derpytongue2:

Anyway, it's submitted and should be up soonish. Oh wait, it's up now. Neat.

    What's next? (TRM Spoilers)

I'm about a week late with this, sorry about that, work has been crazy busy the last few weeks and my weekends have also been packed. Anyway, this is going to have some spoilers (well, one really) for The Right Man in the Wrong Place so consider yourself warned if you haven't finished it yet.

I don't feel like wrapping the whole thing in spoiler tags so...

    Busy week

It's been a crazy week and I just haven't had a chance to do a final pass on the next chapter. I hope to have it ready for tomorrow. Now I've got to run, sorry for the delay!

Progress Update · 1:09am Aug 7th, 2017

It's been a while since I've posted anything about TRM's sequel and I've had some people send me PMs or post in the comments asking about how it's going. Well, I've got some bad news and some good news (well, better anyway :P)

Bad news first.

My schedule this summer has been crazy. Due to some issues at work, coupled with the fact that we lost a few people and my team is shorthanded, I've been working crazy overtime pretty much since the just after the middle of June. Without really getting into details, things got really crazy, to the point that I had to work through the 4th of July holiday, was working M-F and weekends and had to cancel my summer vacation plans and reschedule my time off. This has, more or less, put a dead stop on my writing, for almost two months (the last time I really had any significant time to do any writing was when I wrote How 'A Royal Problem' Should Have Ended) Even when I had free time, I was pretty much burnt out from working 12-16 hour days and / or through the weekend.

Now for the good news. In the last week or so, things are starting to quiet down and I should be back on my normal schedule hopefully by the end of next week. This should mean more free time, though I'm still somewhat busy because I had to reschedule a bunch of plans to later in the summer. However, I do plan on getting back into writing (I've even poked around at the chapter I was working on before I got crazy busy the other day) as time permits.

As I mentioned earlier, a few people have asked about sequel progress. I'm not really comfortable assigning a percentage to my progress because things can change. I expected TRM to be ~80-100k words and ended up going over 220k. Also my writing speed is fairly inconsistent. Sometimes I'll write 1000 words in a session, get stuck on a spot and struggle with it for a while. Sometimes I'll bang out 10,000 words in a similar time frame. I spent ~10 months working on TRM before I posted the first chapter (and then I worked on it more as I was putting out chapters) As a rough estimate, I expect to spend a similar amount of time on the sequel (not including all the time I lost due to work issues)

Anyway, that about wraps this post up. Thanks to everyone who has left me feedback for TRM. I can't promise when the sequel will be ready, but as long as FimFiction exists, and I have a computer and an internet connection, I'm going to keep working on this thing till it's done.

:pinkiehappy:
glade to hear thing are looking better on your end.
I remember how it was managing people in the past and I know how being short handed sucks.

so we should start watching for some kind of update some time around February.

I will be looking forward to reading the sequel and I hope kitchen sink again

The real takeaway from this should be, it will be a while and it's done when it's done.

I still like writing, so I'm not going to stop, but in the end it's a hobby (one of several) that I do in my spare time, and when I don't have any / much spare time, I have to put it on hold. Work and family come first, hobbies come second.

Standing by...

Thank you for letting us know that your ok and still enjoy writing. Just got done with an hour of pt and a long day and this made my day better. Hope life gets easier and you get to enjoy your time more. Stay safe and have fun.

Thanks for the update. Your real life and mental health take priority, so you'll get no grief from me on a sequel taking a while.

So many people just not working anymore, its been keeping my work at silly numbers as well.

And just list your progress like this:

It'll get there when it gets there!

It'll get there when it gets there!

Exactly. That should have been my tl;dr at the end

Status check - how'r'ya doin', bro?

Well, I just sat down to do some work on the sequel :derpytongue2:

I'm still way behind where I intended to be at this point. It's a good thing I don't set release dates. :twilightsheepish:
