On Sunny Skies... · 3:31am Jan 8th, 2018
I'll just get this out of the way right off of the bat: I had absolutely no plan when I started this. I was just kinda reading FOE stories (Project Horizons specifically) and thought "Wow, this is a cool world, I should try doing something in this." Then, I just kinda threw a bunch of ideas floating around in my head together and started writing. I got pretty much as far as the story on here did before I ran into a wall asking one simple question: "where am I going with this?" At the time I didn't have an answer and I found myself completely incapable of going any further before coming up with an answer. I also got pretty burned out on FO:E in general after finishing PH (yes, I finished that train wreck) leaving me kind of moot on the whole topic. Being stuck also wasn't helped along by college struggles, depression, and other irl issues.
It took me over a year to figure it out but now, I have my answer and a plan. Of course, the beginning of a story is probably the most essential part and I didn't want a sharp disconnect between my initial burst and my newer more directed chapters, so I've done a rewrite. I was really against rewriting initially since it's kinda flipping people who took the time to read the original version the middle finger for spending their time on it, but I just didn't want to go on without a sure foundation to build off of.
I tried to keep the overall chain of events as intact as possible but did wind up changing a lot of things. Especially small, subtle things that affect characterization and minutia of some plot points so I do ask you try and at least read through the rewrites before going further. The biggest changes are probably Starprancer's design and the beginning of Chapter 2.
Star now has a design closer to G1 Moondancer: a white coat, with a red mane and purple Twilight stripe. She's retaining her dark emerald eyes. I also worked on her personality to make her a sniff more childish and kinda just even her character out, which leads me to. The beginning of Chapter 2 is the only part of the story I threw out the original content for something new. Chapter 2 has bugged me since I wrote it and it was honestly cathartic to finally come up with something I felt was better. Much better, really. I feel like I was able to much better illustrate the divide of time and culture between Star and Shadow while also getting to show off Stable 13 (even if it was just it's artifacts) more.
Chapter 4 is another part of the story that got changed a fair bit. The chapter was split into two, something I should have done in the first place. The confrontation between the Steel Rangers and Wintermail was also tweaked, the part where Shadow shoots Winter in the back of the head is gone. Chapter 5 (formerly the later part of 4) is also going to get worked on a fair bit, probably going to be a lot less "Shadow and Star shoot and then they run, they stop so they can shoot and run" going on there.
I will actually be publishing completely 100% new content not too long from now. Chapter 6 is ready to go, Chapter 7 is still in it's early phases of writing, but Chapters 8, 9, and maybe 10 will be made from recycled stuff I wrote back in May so they should be quick to follow. I have high hopes for what's too come, I've got a plan and the passion for this is back, even if I don't have an editor and most of my readers have probably forgotten about this.
Thanks for sticking with it those that do, I'm sorry for lying about having a chapter out back in April of last year. I'll do my best to not make too much of a mess going forward.
