New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Turnabout Storm parts 13-15 updated · 7:39pm Feb 13th, 2018

Updates and editing passes have been completed to parts 13-15 of Turnabout Storm, which take the story through Phoenix's first encounter with Pinkie and second interview of Rainbow, including breaking her psyche-locks and getting the truth from her as to what she was doing near the crime scene that night.

There's a lot of new content and revamped dialogue including some elaboration on the Equestrian 500, and Rainbow initially deciding to fire Phoenix as her lawyer after his poor performance (seriously, if you think about it, she's the only one who can fire Phoenix; not Twilight!). I imported more video graphics as well, though I may yet try to edit a few in Photoshop. Just as an example of the new changes, here's Pinkie's introduction in chapter 13:

At that moment, a bright pink earth pony with a very fluffy mane and tail appeared in front of him. “Hey there, Mr. Frowny-Wowny. What’s the matter?” she asked, quite bubbly for someone who just met a total stranger.

Phoenix blinked and looked up at unfamiliar equine, swearing he could hear an odd but upbeat and catchy tune that almost seemed to be carried in with her. Huh? Where did she come from? She smells like cotton candy… the human lawyer sniffed the air, suddenly and not unpleasantly reminded of the fairs he’d attended as a kid.

“Cotton Candy?” The new pony looked puzzled for a moment. “Oh! You must have smelled the new shampoo I’m using! It comes from the Fairground Flavors line of mane and tail care! They’re my favorites; I just thought I needed a change of pace from Bubble Berry!” she said, running a hoof through her floofy hair.

“Oh. That explains it, then...” Phoenix shrugged, his common sense kicking in a little late, bringing him up short. Wait, did I just say that, or think that...? Don’t tell me the ponies can read minds too! He eyed the vividly pink stranger suspiciously. “Uh... excuse me, but who are you?”

The mare looked only too happy to tell him. “I’m Pinkie Pie of course! Ponyville’s Premier Party Thrower and Professional Prankster Extraordinaire!” she introduced herself with a bright smile and a four-legged pronk that took her nearly six feet into the air as though her legs were on springs, startling him. “But sorry, I can’t talk right now! I’m looking for something…” she said, closing one eye and squinting the other as she began peering at him through a magnifying glass she had suddenly produced.

Thanks as always go to my prereading/production crew of AJ_Aficionado, Silentwoodfire and Denim_Blue, who made plenty of recommendations and left a ton of comments on the Google Docs I was making the updates in. Give the reworked chapters a read and let me know what you think! Next up will be the four Pinkie & Sonata chapters to follow. Also, on a side note, I'm going to be changing all occurrences in the story of parchment to papyrus, since a recent commenter pointed out that parchment was actually made from animal skins. Needless to say, that's not something the ponies would use! :unsuresweetie:
