Head here and see for yourself. First post is optional, but the conclusion they reach...

Yeah. On occasion, 4chan produces something surprisingly worthwhile.

Holy crap. That is amazing.

:rainbowderp:Whoa!

dear god, when 4chan actually manages to spout out some form of revalation they find the REALIY big ones

4chan is a magical place, not unlike Tahiti.

Ten-million monkeys....

Look! Shakespeare!

This even explains and solves the Starlight Glimmer controversy, doesn't it? From a competent villain with a whole town adoring her leadership, to a crazy revenge-driven psychopath with a suddenly eerily plausible backstory.
Her relapses after her reformation stem from insecurities that make her paranoid about losing the affections of her friends again after going off the deep end twice already.

:rainbowderp:

"I think I peed a little"

I'm flabbergasted. It makes a huge amount of sense.

In all seriousness, this is like tmw a research lab on protein synthesis turned the process into a puzzle game, and got one that was 16x more efficient than anything they had been able to produce.

#TheInternet > #Kira

One question remains, though... How heavy a concussion did that Ursa give Tempest Shadow? Because her level of competence as a lonely outcast and cold-hearted general can't be natural under this headcanon.

I believe you have discovered Grubber's true purpose.

What about when stallions are irrational? Or Spike?

4823631
I do think it's a species thing and not a gender thing. At most, it's more pronounced.

Amazingly, sometimes RGRE isn't just a completely cancerous circlejerk. And then someone bat posts and it's right back down into the gutter again.

4823656
Bats are great though :)

Wow. The only counter example I can think of is Zecora, but she isn't a pony. This theory works surprisingly well for dragons too. Spike and Ember are civilized because they had loving parental figures, and the feral dragons we saw in earlier seasons got progressively more savage the longer they were alone.

...am I the only who thinks this is a whole lot of work to arrive at a headcanon that's kind of needless if you possess anything approaching an empathetic soul?

I am?

Fine, I'll show myself out. :P

Also, mfw when people are still crying over harmless episodes like ACW.

Huh. That was unexpected. I mean, I knew 4chan could occasionally puke up gold, but...

thank you for sharing this FoME!

Yeah, I know, this weird, foreign mentality where feeling lonely and friendless makes you a little erratic HOW DO WRITERS COME UP WITH SUCH COMPELLING PORTRAITS OF AN ALIEN MINDSET

Also, contradicted by every instance where fame gets to Rainbow's head; by this logic the massive community of respect and admiration should make her the most clear-headed of all, demonstrably not the case. I suppose you could make the argument "That's not actual love," which feels suspiciously like No True Scotsman. Thanks for sharing regardless, though!

i would argue Rainbow has exceptionally severe issues, and that her egoism is a partially self-immolating habit that constantly drives in a self-concious stake into the severity of the differences between herself and others, like she only ever had one sense of agency towards her own naturally extreme esteem issues in the form of attempting to own her own self-percieved deviancy that logically, in her own heart, means that she is applying the "no true scotsman" argument to herself by comflating any form of genuine affection as actually a type of praise or adoration, and therefor feels disgenuine in an act of projection.

did that make sense? im fuzzy from a headache.

4823858
I just woke up so I'm in the same boat, but I think so?

EDIT: I mean to say I still am dubious about the argument presented in the above link, but I understand the construction you're setting up. Maybe.

4823820
By being euphoric in their own enlightenment, duh?

4823822
I think that can be explained actually. While regular love is freely given, fame has to be constantly earned and upheld. So while it makes ponies generally more competent and inspired (and wouldn't that be a nice explanation for how Rainbow's parents raised the most prodigious flyer in centuries), all that common sense goes right out the window when it comes to preserving that fame. It's why Sapphire Shores regularly makes ludicrous demands for her show costumes, why Coloratura didn't question Svengallop so long as ponies were cheering for her, why the Wonderbolts are the cream of the crop and allegedly great teammates most of the time but turn into absolute dicks when there's any chance of losing or furthering their fame and why three of them got knocked out by one flailing unicorn after hours of watching other ponies get cheered and applauded for doing what they're famous for.

The linked image isn't very phone browser friendly. Would anyone care to summarize please?

4823894
I see what you're saying. It's also possible that the Wonderbolts are just 100% trash horse and legitimately terrible ponies.

I'm sorry if I'm misconstruing the original post, so please feel free to correct me, but the basic thrust of the original discussion can be boiled down to the quote "ponies only gain common sense when they feel loved and secure." This is used as evidence to explain some of the more erratic Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome behaviors displayed by the protagonists and others. The conclusion is reasonable but the discussion is framed in a way that implies, if not outright states, that this is some weird alien thing going on in the brains of ponies and not simply a truth of the human condition (to be fair, at least one participant in the original discussion points this out).

Long story short an unloved ponies are highly irrational and poor decision makers which explains Starlight, Tempest, Stygian, A Canterlot Wedding, Lesson Zero and a lot of other things. If you want it read it in more detail you could tap the image then zoom in.

4824142
Thanks for the explanation. That does make a lot of sense.

I have a new theory.

Ponies eat food. If they're hungry, they get irritable and make poor decisions. Therefore ponies become more rational and pleasant if they have full bellies.

It explains everything.

Food is Magic.

Tirek should be a right jolly old elf, I suppose.
