DYK - Stories of Days Gone By · 1:40am May 1st, 2018
Welcome to my second DYK (Did You Know) post. This DYK's topic is "Stories of Days Gone By."
"Stories of Days Gone By" was my first story on Fimfiction. It takes place shortly after season seven, episode 13, "The Perfect Pear." If you have not yet read this story, there will be spoilers ahead. Using the spoiler BBCode, I'm concerned that half of my post will be black bars, so my discussion will follow after the break.
For those who have read this story, you will know that Burnt Oak tells the Apple siblings stories of Bright Mac and Pear Butter. In his first story, he explains how Pear Butter invites Bright Mac to see Buffalo Bull's Amazing Wild West Show as a way of saying thank you for repairing the water silo. The Wild West Show and titular performer were featured in My Little Pony: Friends Forever issue 33.
You will also know that Burnt Oak's second story is about Bright Mac's search for the perfect Hearts and Hooves Day present for Pear Butter. Here comes a big DYK fact. The original second story Burnt Oak tells was not about Hearts and Hooves Day and actually featured a young Filthy Rich. Not making the final cut of the story, this fun tale will hopefully be told in a future story.
Finally, while "Stories of Days Gone By" references the TV series and comic books, I have included a fun Easter egg for readers to find.
Here's a hint: It is a reference to a question brought up twice in Friendship is Magic. It was the focus of one episode, and mentioned in another.
