My Say on "Horse Play" · 4:17am May 10th, 2018
I was running super behind on MLP, and I'm almost caught up (I still need to watch The Parent Map). However, I had a feeling this episode was going to be my favorite of the season, and so far, it definitely fits that role. It's basically a mixture of a lot of what I've wanted from MLP: or, to be more precise, basically just a fun Celestia episode and more stuff about Equestrian theatre. But more importantly, I knew there was a reason Celestia was my best princess.
Don't get me wrong: I love her as her mentor character self. But this side of her was a riot, too. I enjoy the fact that she's both serious and fun. So essentially, this is the pure Celestia content everyone needed without knowing they needed.
(Plus Trixie's backalley fireworks operation is comedy gold.)
Three things I noticed about how it relates to some of my stories:
1.) Even EqD admits Celestia and Coco would be besties. I am willing to write this oneshot either before or after I write the Aggretsuko-inspired Coco oneshot. Because I simply can't decide between "royal girl talk" Coco or angry venting Coco. Both are good.
2.) Even after her minor meltdown and talks of potential cancellation, Twilight Sparkle is still a better producer than Mosely Orange. I'm legally obligated to make jokes at this flankhole's expense every time producers or Bridleway productions are brought up in conversation, Orange stans do not interact.
3.) Speaking of which, Mosely is now incredibly lucky this episode didn't air before his trial arc was written. If I'd known how much Celestia adored theatre along with how much she loves children, he'd probably end up sent to the moon or even executed.
And one thing I noticed about Grannies Gone Wild:
1.) Hasbro, when I said I'd "like to see a character who hasn't had a speaking role since Apple Family Reunion," I did not mean Apple Rose or Aunt Applesauce. I swear, talking to you is like talking to a genie.
