Concerning the new Equestria Girls special... · 12:52am Jul 7th, 2018
I'm not going to bother writing a full review of it.
Here's all I'm going to say about it:
The plot was a remix of "A Canterlot Wedding" and "Mirror Magic". The resolution was STUPID. The villain was ANNOYING. The song at the end was FORGETTABLE.
It had a few fun moments, but on the whole? It's a solid 5/10. And that only for Sci-Twi and Sunset getting obsessive over the ring toss.
I liked it, yeah the plot doesn't really compare to Forgotten Friendship but I don't watch this for the story I watch it for the characters. If I thought story was the most important aspect of this show I would have stopped watching after episode 1.
I loved the various character interactions and I also laughed at the reveal that they were just trapped in a normal white room. This was a lot of fun and that's all I really want from MLP, to have fun.
And a fair amount of "Rarity Takes Manehattan," though at least Rarity had minions other than her friends.
Personally, I just have questions about Equestria World. What is the IP it's based on? What work of fiction in this world so closely resembles the pony universe? Why was there an Adagio mascot suit!?

The most interesting thing about the short was the cameo of Megan from G1.
The shorts have only been disappointing me. I like equestria girl more that Friendship is Magic and well the 7 main characters haven't been cutting it lately. Aj, Rainbow, Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy never got my attention outside of their design as they are the almost 100% the same as their pony counterparts, and Sunset hasn't been interesting at all.
I feel more invested on what background characters are doing than the main cast. I want to see what Flash, Juniper, Wallflower, the shadow 5 and the dazzlings are doing even if they are just sitting on a couch doing nothing over the rainbooms transforming and saving the day.
This special sucked! It's a huge disappointment after "Forgotten Friendship", and it makes me feel like Hasbro doesn't actually want to give Equestria Girls a spin-off series, but they're too stubborn to admit they won't commit to it.
I don’t think it was that bad. The plot has always been secondary to the character relationships in the EqG series, and the main enjoyment for me has always been seeing the characters bounce off each other in a quasi-Earthlike setting. This special had some of the best interactions between the humane 6 so far, IMO.
I also appreciate how much this special leaned hard into the shipping fuel. Like goddamn, the subtext isn’t even subtle anymore.

Unfortunately the plot is REALLY bad, even for MLP standards. I feel like they had to come up with something just because they had to, not cause they wanted to.
Still, the Rarijack and Sunlight shipping is strong so there's that at least.
I face palmed through my face at the white room and especially at the hip phone talk I'll never understand but yeah, the ring toss was hilarious!

It's called Me, My Selfie and I though that might be a beta name for it since it went by that during all those leaks on YouTube awhile back. TV and such called it Rollercoaster of Friendship though so that might be the official name unless it's like Forgotten Friendship where it has at least 3 different names for its title.

I'm wondering why there's a nightmare moon themed ride? Is it based off the Nightmare moon legend or is it a fairy tale? How do the two worlds connect? It's so weird how there's a siren costume that looks like Adagio. I mean what are the odds. In the real world there's tons of different depictions of sirens but that theme park has the most accurate depiction of their worlds sirens. I'm probably thinking too hard about this.
