I guess this ties this story to the new timeline and makes it canon in the AU? Cos now it has been revealed that Sunset can now pretty much create her own portals to Equestria and Tartarus, and no longer rely on the portal under her house.

Not entirely.

The portal can easily take more than one person/pony at a time... Sunset [as of right now] can only travel to Equestria via her own wormhole on her own, and at considerable expenditure of power to do so.

She did this, specifically for her adorant, for Sweet Pea... and because Tripwire is a blight on humanity for what he's done.
