Whenver I get dislikes on my story, it's usually because I portray a controversial issue. For instance, if you write a story that portrays the princesses or Twilight in a less-than-favorable light, you'll get down-voted. Also if I leave a downvote, I usually leave a comment explaining why. Others don't do the same courtesy. They're not going to stop me from continuing my story, screw them.
