Nope, still not dead. I'm only rewriting drafts over and over again because I can't seem to do shit right as much as I used to.
But! One of the things I've working on is opening lines!
Seriously, a good opening line for a story can help you an awful lot. A different start sets you to write a different paragraph than the one you intended, sooo you got a chain reaction from there. The typical 'take a look at things from another pov' but for writing.
Besides being a good way to lure in readers. I mean, duh, everybody knows that, that's why I'm working on them after a year of publishing stories 
Anyways, I'd like to see if I'm doing this right and also lure you into my wonderful, charming stories (??) so sneak peek time! Keep in mind, this are WiPs which I translated now so there might be errors.
I present to you the opening line of Hidden Desires, aka the Succubi/witch AU that I freakin' love.
While some people found Crystal House as a sign of the elegance and wealth held by high society in late nineteenth-century, for Sunset Shimmer it only offered a bitter nostalgia, a journey back in time to a confused innocence and possible regrets.

Everything was normal and quiet in the afternoon, and Twilight was trying to make the most of it by learning some contemporary world history from one of the books in Celestia's library.
Until the bell rang and panic spread.
A very rough, very first draft. But now I think at least I'm gonna keep the last sentence, lol. I like it.

What are your methods to start a story? Do you use a specific word? A dialogue? An action?
