Happy Thanksgiving! · 4:41pm Nov 22nd, 2018
Hello, it is me again. I have been busy working over the last few days and simply wanted to talk about a few things that I think you would enjoy.
First, chapter 3 is done! Yay! One thing is this, it is around 3400+ words as of writing right now. It hasn’t been revised, so there may be quite a large influx depending on what I want from it. It may be left the same as well… but I will have to see.
Something I want to cover is my writing style. There are changes… a lot of changes. To put it blankly, I only added what was important to the narrative and gave a concentrated layout of the chapter. This removed the “fluff” some would mention and also gives the reader just enough to fill in the blanks, I think, giving a much more enjoyable read and experience. This will rest as my test chapter to see how it works for right now. If it does well, then I will continue this layout.
I don’t mind the lower word count, in fact, I actually enjoy it. It makes me writing fit more to others schedules. Lower word count, quicker read of the chapter… yes… but also means faster writing once I get into the groove of this. I’m still very new to this style and I have a painful two days of learning it were I did nothing.
Last night, I churned out almost 4 pages of my chapter after getting over the block. In terms of total pages, it was 9. To put in perspective how many that is to the others, 1 was 20, 2 was 17, 3 was 9. This isn’t bad, at least to me. I actually wanted a 9-page goal for all my chapters, but that was when I didn’t know proper page dimension at the time (the version Scrivener doesn’t support that kind of stuff unless you export.)
Now that I have my delicate page setup ready in Word, it is much easier to process how large these chapters are. This is a test again. I suspect other chapters will be much larger in terms of meat on the bones, but right now, this is what I have to give.
Here is another excerpt from chapter 3 so you can get another feel on the change in narration. “For right now, he would simply relax and listen to nature. The silence. It was always a wonderful thing to have. He wasn’t so lucky in the city, where the booming of voices and carriages barreling down the road made up most of the day. It was one of the many reasons he preferred morning. Mornings were the most silent time in the city, where the partygoers would sleep and the early birds would wake. There was one downside to mornings, it was the cold.
Winter had set much sooner over Equestria than expected. First, the trees laid bare; then, the air grew cold, before the snow fell. It happened swift, quick enough to catch many off guard.”
So, there you go! This will be what chapter 3 will consist of, paragraph that give you meat. My process now, and this is something I should have done a lot sooner, is to cut the fat off the meat. This will make my story so much more readable and less drooling in pace. Boiling away the fat gives you exactly what you need without bombarding you with a bunch of useless detail. Hopefully, this chapter will show it well. I’m still learning it, so I may mess up in some areas. There are a lot of new things I did in this chapter that I may mess up on. Maybe, I’m just being self-conscious again.
This is all I have to say for now, I hope you have a good day and happy Thanksgiving.
Also, I post on LiveJournal now... so yeah. I did this because I felt I could talk about a lot of stuff consistently on there. Feel free to look at it here.
