Jacobs Fanfic Readings: "Agent Redwood" by DannyJ (feat. 5 VA guests) · 8:27pm Feb 3rd, 2019

Production for this fanfic reading started back in May of last year, I approached a few different people for each of the roles, and although I had to wait on VAs for a couple of roles, my patience paid off in the end. I approached my friend Wandering Mare for the title character, and she was happy to accept the role. I had enjoyed her fanfic readings, thought she could also potentially do well at voice acting, and wanted to see her channel grow, so I figured her voicing in a fanfic reading could help her out with that. Plus, she fits the role well with her performance of a less serious agent who's also a free spirit.
For Shining Armor, I heard my friend Whirlwind Studios voice Shining Armor for the channel "Brony Entertainment Network," and approached him based on that since I thought he did well in the role (in fact, I think his Shining Armor impression is spot-on, you'd swear that it was Andrew Francis in the role for this reading).
For the OC "Wind Whistler" (not to be confused with "Thistle Whistle" from G3, or Rainbow Dashs mom "Windy Whistles"), I imagined that GutiuSerenade could voice the role well. I messaged Guti in May, and eventually he responded in August and accepted the offer, then sent his file not too long after.
For Azure in chapter 2, I approached my friend CadetRedShirt, and at first asked if she could do a raspy voice (since I wanted to ensure that her voice was distinct from Redwood), but she said she didn't think she could, so then I suggested her natural voice (which I thought she did until much later on she said she added gravel to the voice), and thankfully Wandering and Cadet were still distinct in each role (which is definitely a pro to full cast readings).
The casting for Arrow was a little different however, I originally approached Chaotic for the role, however I found out a few months later that he was unavailable through an announcement video of his because he had very serious IRL issues to deal with, so I had to recast the role. It took a bit of thinking, but then I thought of my friend Sparrow 9642, and he told me on Discord and mentioned in his reaction to this reading that he had a lot of fun with the role.
For my narration, I actually recorded it back in August of last year, I figured I would have time to do so on a Saturday when I decided to do a recording binge as it was the only time at that point when I could do so, and thankfully I was right in having enough time to record the narration in the binge (which also included a few of my smaller videos uploaded then).
Also, when DannyJ commented in reply to a comment on my reading, he mentioned that each chapter in the story was a different story from the other since they had to be compiled as part of this sites rules (he explained it in more detail).
I also hoped to release this at some point later on in the year last year, but was delayed when I needed an additional file (and mistakenly asked for another additional file that I didn't realize I already had), and a couple of retakes for one of the lines, and wanting to watch more Christmas-related things in December. Then after not being able to completely finish it early on in January, I aimed to release it by the end of the month, and succeeded.

For some reason YouTube didn't notify me of your last reply, but thank you for the link. Interesting stuff. It's odd to think that a project like this was in the works for that many months, and all that time I had no idea. It was a nice surprise, to be sure.

What made you choose Agent Redwood specifically to adapt, might I ask? It's not one of my better known fics, and it doesn't sound like you were aware of the OC Slamjam contest it came from. How'd you stumble across it?

I don't entirely remember, it may have come up as a search result for comedy and/or slice of life, or may have been featured on the home page at one point, my memory on it is foggy at this point.

Well, in any case, thank you again for all of this. It means a lot to me.
