ATOTS Editing Progress, and Chapter 15 coming Monday · 2:29am Apr 14th, 2019
Hi everybody. You're probably wondering what happened to the new chapter. I mean, I said "the next few days", right? Well, turns out the back-edits are taking a lot longer than I thought. But hey, I've never had the best sense for how long something will take anyway. ADHD thing.
In fact, I'm actually not done. I just finished going through chapter 8 today. And with finishing chapter 8, that brings the total points of correction I've done to about... 452. Yeah, 452. I made a list of them all to keep everything organized.
Again, nothing essential has been lost. It's all commas I've missed (mostly due to not understanding vocative case), some words written in the wrong order, typos hidden as other words (I call those Ninja Typos), missing hyphens, hyphens used in place of Em-dashes because I didn't understand the difference, mis-capitalized words, misspelled words, and paragraphs I realized could be joined.
There were also other places where I re-wrote bits of it when I thought it sounded clunky or contained unnecessary words that amounted to little more than padding. Chapter 8 in particular saw a lot of sentence re-writing and quite a bit of padding removal (you may notice a drop in the word count of at least 30 words or so, I think).
I really should have started this last year. It's feeling like a Labor of Hercules. Though I suppose if I equated editing these chapters to the Labors, I'd ironically have just captured the mares of Diomedes, and have yet to steal the belt of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons.
So, here's what I'm doing. I have planned to have A Tale of Two Suns chapter 15 posted on Monday, within the usual window of 9:30-10:30 AM EDT. I had originally planed to post it tomorrow, but I'm really tired by now, and I have yet to do any of the setup work for posting a chapter, or given the chapter one last run through, or used the text-to-speech feature on fimfiction to find any Ninja Typos (I've found it very useful. Really, try it.).
I don't want to keep you guys waiting any longer, so for the rest of the back-editing, I'll be doing that some other time, on days on my choosing. I'll probably make announcements when I do it so you guys know when things are going to fluctuate. And if anything goes wrong with my plan for posting chapter 15 on Monday, I'll let you know.
