My Little Pony Season 9 News 05/10/2019 · 11:31am May 10th, 2019

GOOD MORNING, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! And today we once again prepare for some final discussions before tomorrow's episode which will feature a member of our 'Young Six' in a starring role. Now I've been hearing from some of the fanbase that for a season that's all about 'closing ties' it seems to them that most of the episodes we've seen as of late are filler episodes and while some of what they say may be true in some terms, I think they forget the importance of enjoying the fun of watching these stories and the characters going through them. But hopefully, this weekend's episode will be among the highlights of the season as we prepare to take a dive at Yona's 22 minutes of fame entitled:

She's All Yak

As we've discussed from previous blogs, Yona gets asked to attend the school dance with Sandbar and thus goes to Rarity (Along with her friends) for a makeover hoping to come in with a change in appearance and personality. In relation to the title in general, it's important to note that the title bears a similarity to one of the most popular teen flicks of the 1990s, 'She's All That' (The titles are practically similar), which in turn the movie itself was a modern adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion and George Cukor's 1964 film My Fair Lady. All three subjects (Along with this episode) do share a common plot device: An unattractive woman who is turned into a beautiful dame (Most stories as part of a bet) and the ensuing shenanigans that follows. Although 'She's All That' was a bet that a dude made a bet he can replace his ex with any woman to take to the prom. Now that's not necessarily to imply that the movie will share the same basic plots we either know from the original source material or not, but I am curious to see what this story has to offer.

I will essentially admit this faithful readers, I was initially skeptical about this episode in general (And it's not even just because any episode that has 'Yak' in the title doesn't bode any confidence, given their reception from the fans). For me this episode screamed for the 'Be Yourself' moral to take place and it left me wondering, 'What are the writers doing with this episode?'. On one hand, it's a chance for several of the Young Six to have a shining moment with Yona being a huge favorite by several members of the fans. Yet based on what the synopsis in general implies and comparing this with the stories I have mentioned in the last paragraph, why would Yona be willing to go through the trouble to change herself and why 'did' Sandbar ask Yona to the dance in the first place? And the more I thought about it, the more it started to dawn on me.

Maybe the real reason that Yona is willing to ask Rarity to change her appearance is essentially out of insecurity. Even though Yona is proud of her heritage and claims that Yaks are best at everything (Which in itself is debatable), I do believe Yona truly wants to fit-in amongst all the ponies and given that the dance seems to be essentially a 'Pony Dance' and what with Yona's habits of breaking stuff it's no wonder Yona questions why Sandbar would want 'her' to come rather than his own kind. But then we think from Sandbar's perspective, hopefully he didn't make a bet that he can take 'any' girl to the dance, hence the reason for choosing Yona, going on to state that Sandbar chose Yona because he's gotten the chance to know her so well and they've been very good friends (Course there were other girls in his group, but that's besides the point). Some fans will say there's a bit of shipping taking place with these students, some say this will be another episode where good intentions go wrong, and others will again say that this is another filler episode that doesn't carry on through the remainder of the season. But I'd like to believe that whatever happens tomorrow, perhaps this episode may turn out to be surprising for the fans and maybe all it needs is the proper credit where credit is due.

But the big question remains: What do YOU think? Be sure to leave a comment below at your earliest convenience.
