    MLP: TNG

I'm a month late to this, but here's my take on MLP: TNG (or whatever we're calling it). I was underwhelmed the first time I watched it, but I gave it a second chance, and it started to grow on me. I think my mistake was watching Raya and the Last Dragon just a few days before the G5 movie. Both movies have similar themes and plots, but they handle them differently. More on that later.

    Revisiting the Final Season

A few months ago, I rewatched Season 9, and I liked it even better than the first time I saw it. There were still two episodes that I didn't care for: “3, 2, 1, Greaaat” and “Trivial Pursuit.” With both of those episodes, I went into them with the mindset that I would skip to the next episode when they started to annoy me. I only made it a few minutes into each episode.

    Bereavement

It's been awhile since I've posted any updates. Things happened one after another to make me lose interest in multicolored ponies. First the show ended, and then real world problems started happening. Then came the worst case scenario – I lost my father in February of this year.

    Random update

I haven't been on this site as much as I use to because of real life distractions. Not all of the distractions have been good, but the good ones are truly amazing.

Pony Life is a regression to Season One

Maybe it's just because the MLP stop-motion shorts lowered my expectations, but so far I think Pony Life is okay. I wouldn't call it good, but at least it doesn't directly insult older fans the way Thundercats Roar does (or so I've heard). I enjoy Pony Life's animation style enough to recommend watching five minutes of it. Plus, there is actual dialog spoken by the same VA's from FiM, and they

My Hard Drive is Like Equestria Girls · 9:42pm Jul 28th, 2019

My hard drive crashed this morning. And I had been doing so well on writing, too. I'd written 2300 words of my second draft of “Earth Ponies Are Blessed With Suck” and so far the scenes have a better flow than the first draft. The employee at the store where I bought my laptop said I'll need to replace my hard drive, which would cost about the same as a new laptop, unless I want to go really high-end.

As writing setbacks go, this isn't as bad as the time my file of the last chapter of “So You Escaped From Limbo” was corrupted. I still have all my fanfics on my flashdrive and some copies saved to Google drive. But I won't be able to afford a new laptop for at least two weeks, so until then I'll have to try to write at the library after work. Which is going to be a pain, but I'll make myself do it for at least a few days, because I really want to finish this story before the series ends.

Speaking of series ending, have you heard the news that Equestria Girls was canceled? I'm disappointed, but not surprised. The series lacked direction – it didn't know if it was a magical girl show or a slice-of-life high school sitcom, and the writers couldn't decide whether it should be a movie franchise, a TV show, or a series of shorts. The sad part is that a lot of fanfic writers put more thought into the world-building and character development than the series writers did. It's too bad because it had a lot of potential and could have been a strong series if the writers had put as much effort into EG as they did into MLP.

Ooh, sorry to hear that. Well, at least you have backups. That's good.

Equestria Girls is cancelled?

(Sorry not sorry.)

Nick Confalone has confirmed that there are more shorts yet to be released, and while DHX has dropped it, it's hypothetically possible that Boulder Media could pick up where they left off, if only to bring the series to a satisfactory conclusion. We'll see what happens.

Also, sorry to hear about the hard drive. Good thing you backed up everything.

... I should probably do the same, now that I think about it. :twilightoops:

True. I was always hoping that they would develop the characters of the Humane 5 so we could differentiate them between the ones in the ponyworld. Sunset and Sci-Twi seemed to be the center of everything, and I wish there were more specials for developing the characters of the Humane 5. There is so much they could have done with it, but it seems that the writers had no clue what to do with show after the four movies. It is sad that I seen much better stories that took those seven characters and their unique world and handled it much better than the writers ever did, with a plot that flowed nicely and was actually interesting and intriguing. And then we have specials like Rollercoaster of Friendship and Sunset's Backstage Pass that were pretty lackluster and mediocre.
RIP your hard drive btw.

That would be nice if EG got a satisfying conclusion, maybe with the girls graduating high school. I've also heard speculation that Sunset will be in G5, but, well, it's just speculation. It sure would make me more enthused about G5, though

I actually liked Sunset's Backstage Pass, and I didn't hate Rollercoaster of Friendship as much as some people seem to. But yeah, there were definitely some missed opportunities.

The rumors that another studio will pick up the series is hopeful, but again, it's a rumor, so let's dont' have our hopes high. If this was the end, well, as much as how much of a improvement Backstage Pass was, it's still a shame that there's no proper resolution. Still, good thing that if it was the end, things ended in a solid note, in that Backstage Pass was a really good special.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your flash drive. Good thing everything wasn't lost.

Wait, a new hard drive costing as much as a new laptop? That's either one hell of a hard drive or you're getting ripped off.

5095790
Yeah, it's possible I'm getting ripped off. But it might include the cost of a new Windows intallation. I'll have to investigate further.

5095800
You probably won't need a new windows key, I know that from experience (re)installing 10 on a bunch of laptops. Can't even remember if I ever had to use a key.

Replacing the hard drive should not cost as much as a new laptop. A 1 TB SSD on Amazon can go for under 110. If I knew the model number of the laptop I could give you better advice, but I usually charge 60-75 for an OS reinstallation.

You should not need a new key as MS has probably already associated this laptop with the OS key. You’d just need installation media which can be downloaded on a functional computer.

5095856
It costs as much as a new laptop if you intend to fix it with the warranty intact.

Unless, of course, his laptop is one of those super cheap Ultrabooks that cost very little and also use specialized storage media

5095986
What would be so special about a repair that (somehow?) leaves warranty intact?

5095801
I agree I can imagine replacing the HDd would not cost as much as a new computer. I would go with a ssd samsung 860 evo for about 130 and restore the original OS should be about 100 or less. Maybe more if you have a lot of programs to install.
