Pinkie Pie, use shock!

GOOD MORNING, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! For some weeks now, there have been numerous episode announcements with sources citing early releases of the second half of the season and many fans ‘struggling’ to refrain from being accused of seeing an episode before everyone else. But today, we’re here to discuss about one particular episode which had actually been announced two months ago along with another subject in question (But I’ll get to that one in the next week). For now, if the image itself didn’t give it away, we’re here to discuss a long-awaited ‘Pinkie Pie’ episode entitled:

The Last Laugh

Now under the account of the episode’s release in China, Miss Rarity if you please:

NO SPOILERS!!!!

Thank you, Rarity.

You're welcome, darling.

Originally announced as "That's a Laugh" (Until an update said otherwise), an effort on Pinkie Pie seeking help from an old friend, the super-silly Cheese Sandwich, in finding her life’s purpose, ends with the discovery of something ‘unimaginable’. Before we dive deep into what the story is trying to cover, there are some key words particularly surrounding Pinkie Pie: “Life’s purpose”. For nine season and numerous specials (Even a movie), we all assume that Pinkie’s life purpose has always been to make the ponies around her happy and going through all the effort to put together parties for ‘every’ occasion just to make a pony feel special. Pinkie herself even received a ‘Cutie Mark’ for making her family smile (Long before ‘Maud Pie’ was added), which to some is considered a rare feat given how they are typically portrayed in later episodes. Yet for all of Pinkie’s efforts, even though we already have reached a conclusion of her character, it would seem that this episode is attempting to ask us, ‘Is that enough?’.

To get into that mystery, we compare Pinkie Pie in general to that of the other Mane Six. If we notice Pinkie Pie, even though it seems she lives in her own place at ‘Sugar Cube Corner’ (Complete with her own bedroom) the truth is she’s only sharing the space with the actual owners of the property, Mr. and Mrs. Cake, whom initially I thought were perhaps relatives in some way (Like perhaps an Uncle and Aunt) yet it’s become clear that they merely took her in assuming she needed a place to stay. Whereas for ponies like Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and even Fluttershy, even though they have ‘parents’ they actually are more independent, they live in their own houses (In Twilight’s case a ‘castle’), we know they have an occupation in town, we can assume they pay their own rent, and most of them have found their ‘purpose’ with a lifelong dream that they’ve carried for a certain period of time. True Applejack still lives with her family and many fans are content with knowing she could never live ‘anywhere’ outside her place of birth, but her work does benefit to Ponyville such as the annual Cider Season where a majority of the family’s money is made (Aside from their other Apple related products of course). Now if we compare that to that of Pinkie Pie, whether she actually ‘works’ in the bakery or partly just volunteers to help out, it’s almost kind of sad for Pinkie especially since she’s practically the same age as the rest of the Mane Six.

I’m a year older than her.

Oh right… Sorry about that. *Clears throat* Anyways, Pinkie’s hope of discovering what her life’s purpose could mean leads her to a reunion with Cheese Sandwich, who’s been rumored to appear this season from the start. Yet based on what the synopsis is saying something bad has happened and it seemingly surrounds Cheese Sandwich himself. A promo was released earlier to give audiences a glimpse as to what’s become of Cheese. Not only do we see he’s dressed like one of those coffee-house beatniks (With a business motif) but he’s ‘Lost his Laugh’!

Now as far as surprising news is concerned, some stirring talk amongst the fans center on the fact that this would be essentially new for a person like ‘Weird Al Yankovic’, the voice behind ‘Cheese Sandwich’. As we know about Yankovic, he’s been heavily popular for his comedic parodies of popular songs and genres yet somehow he’s proven to be such a musical genius with his writing and style that many fans clamor him to be among the most popular celebrities of all time. To envision Yankovic as a pony whose sense of humor just ‘disappeared’ would not only reflect on people who have lost their motivation to do what they enjoy, but giving us a different perspective on what we’ve always known about the man (Even people who aren’t fans of Yankovic’s music would find the news rather startling). Still, fans have wanted to see a reunion between Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich for quite some time and knowing that this episode does promise to deliver some laughs we know it could still be fun to watch. We may not get that deep story of Pinkie Pie we’ve been looking for, but where the story may come off as lacking depending on the viewpoints of the fans come Saturday we sincerely hope the episode itself makes up for it with its comedic timing.

But the big question remains: What do YOU think? Be sure to leave a comment below at your earliest convenience.

Until next week faithful readers, this is the Dramamaster829... Signing out!
