    Yes I am alive

Sorry I've been so absent as of late. My new project kinda absorbed me a bit :twilightsheepish: Actually, for the past year ever since I decided to write a Warriors fanfiction I couldn't really think about much else as far as writing is concerned, even right now.

    It's been 10 years!

Yeah, it's been 10 years since I've made an account on this website and published the first two chapters of Rebirth of the Damned, my first story (you can't tell now because back then when you would edit chapters and save them then it would overwrite the date of publication).

Which class should I play in Classic? Also brief update on Rebirth of the Damned · 3:13pm Aug 10th, 2019

Yeah, so I wanted to ask your advice about which class to play in Classic, aaaand since it has been a while since the last update on Rebirth of the Damned I figured I should let you know why there hasn't been a chapter in so long. Gonna start with that, since it will take a much shorter to explain :twilightsheepish:

So yeah, in the last chapter, I had finally introduced the character I've been planning for years to appear in the story: Diamond Tiara. Oh, and Sindragosa :derpytongue2: Actually, it was Sindragosa I've been planning for years, 6 years in fact, but wanted to bring in Diamond Tiara to. But yeah, I was happy to see how warmly Sindragosa's appearance had been accepted by everybody. Which is why it really kills me that it's taking so long for the next chapter to come.

You see, immediately after finishing writing that chapter, with the larger amount of work I had to do at job, I decided to take an entire June off from writing. You know, rest, play some games, just relax. I resumed writing in July, but with Infinite Potential, and planning to write two chapter in a row for that. You see, as probably most of you don't know, I have an "rule" about publishing 4 chapters a year for that story at least (altough I hadn't yet managed to beat that), and so far this year I published only one. Soo... yeah, with half of year gone, I decided I needed to step it up a bit, and then have the last chapter come out around December as usually. Unfortunately... I am still writing the first one, and although I expect the second one to be much shorter, I doubt I would get it done before the end of September.

Sorry, the chapters for those stories tend to be a bit bigger than all my other stuff's. And with the job demanding more out of me, I find myself too tired in my free time to write properly. Hell, last week I spend the entire week rewriting something I wrote on the Sunday before because I realized that it was unnecesery and sorta conflicting...

So... yeah, I doubt there won't be any new chapter before October... most likely end of October at that. I hate to pause the story at such point for so long, but at least an introduction of a character isn't quite as if I would have ended it on an actual cliffhanger, right? So I hope you can forgive me the long wait :twilightsheepish:

Okay, now to the more complicated matter: what class should I play? Those of you who remember the WoW of old know that game was... wow, pretty much a different game than it is now. Basically all the classes were different from what they are now, their abilities worked differently, some had even different resources, the leveling was an actual part of the game... So yeah, I wanna make the right choice from the start and have the main that I will play throughout the whole game. I had narrowed down my choices, and I would like to ask your opinion regarding them. And while we're at it, why don't you say what class do you intend to play and why?

Anyway, I had decided that I would be playing as a human. Definetly had to play an Alliance class, of course, but I'm picking human mostly because of their racial ability that increases their reputation gain by 10%. People complain about grinding for reputation NOW, with world quests and such? HA! You have no idea how hard it was to gain rep back in the old days! And I like being exalted with factions, so I'll need it.

Now, I had narrowed down my choices basically to two classes: mage or warlock. I suppose some of you had expected I would play as a paladin, and while I admit that class has a lot of "allure" to me and it is fun to play, it wasn't actually completed by the Vanilla. Paladin was the last class they were working on before release, and simply didn't finish it, and this can be seen in their abilities, they have almost no offensive abilities, fighting mobs is basically just using autoattack and one or two spells that would use up your mana in about two "rotations", if that term had even existed back then. The paladins were mostly taken into raid groups for their buffs, which on top of not being able to be cast once on a whole group had about 5 min of duration each. So that would be a lot of recasting.

Now, warlock. I played this class in Vanilla, actually, as my Horde alt. So by playing an Alliance one, I will still have a different experiance, as all the races that could play as warlocks had different class quests. And I loved the warlock's class quests, they were very interesting and fun, I loved how you had to earn to be able to summon your demons. They are pure dps class, with some healing mechanics in the form of healthstones and drain life, are easy to level up and solo thanks to their pets that don't require feeding or stuff like that, and get a free mount when they hit level 40. Mounts were SUPER expensive back in the day, I think I almost hit level 50 on my main before I saved enough to buy it (thankfully my main was a druid so travelling around wasn't THAT bad). They are also sought out for raids for their ability to summon people, so it would be easier to get into raids. About the only con is that they require soul shards to cast their more powerful spells and summon demons, and those take up a bit of space, and bags weren't that easy to get as they are now (although I would most likely pick tailoring for profession, so I could probably make some myself).

Now, second choice, mage. Hadn't played mage until Cataclysm, so I have little to no idea how it was in Vanilla. I also have no idea what their class quests were or if they were good, if they made the class seem more unique and interesting. So on one hand, I would be in for surprises, and on the other, they could turn out to be boring when compared to some other classes' quests. They are also pure dps class, even more heavily oriented on dealing pure damage than warlock. Most importantly, they are able to teleport to major cities, making it waaaaay easier to travel around the world (cause there weren't any portals back then like today... I think the first portals would be the ones in Shattrah City in Burning Crusade). On the con side though, they have no means of healing, and are much more reliant on mana than warlock.

Soo, those are pretty much my two choices, can't yet decide between them. I will try some of the others later on of course, my first Horde alt will definetly be a troll hunter (yeah, decided on this one but not on the main...). I wanna check out all the classes' quests, all would help me with how they are portrayed in Rebirth of the Damned.

Now, maybe I should tell you what "goals" I want to accomplish while playing Classic. Well, getting to learn more about the classes, of course, and to play through the content that is no longer available, like Zul'Gurub raid hopefully. However, there are two/three things that I want to get the most, certain weapons that are no longer available: Atiesh, Greatstuff of the Guardian, the corrupted Ashbringer, and that hunter's bow made out of nature stuff. So, first class being either mage or a warlock, I should be able to get the Atiesh eventually, assuming I get into good raiding guild and stuff. Second, corrupted Ashbringer, will be a bit trickier, seeing how I would need another class. I think only two classes could use two handed swords back in those days, right? The paladin and a warrior... yeah, so the third character I would make after main and Horde alt would most likely be paladin, not really a fan of warrior class, doubt I would be able to get it to max level. And lastly, hunter's bow, obtained through quest chain that starts with an item dropped in... I want to say, Molten Core? However, that's not the most difficult part; to complete it, you have to battle a few elite mobs that just spawn for hunters, and if anybody else helps them they despawn. Including the hunter's pet. So, I would have to play as a marksman or survival hunter, as beast master is all about the pet's attack... and I always play as beast master hunter, I love my hunter pets! So that's a bit of a bummer... even though all my favorite pets won't be in Classic anyway...

So, what do all of you think? Which is better in your opinion, a warlock or a mage? And what classes do you plan to play as and why?

Go Warlock. I remember all the DoTs I melted people with.

Glad to hear you aren't letting rebirth of the damned die, and my vote would be for warlock

Personally I’m going to have two alliance alts a human warrior tank due to +10 sword skill and tanks are rarer than DPS and a gnome lock due to +5 int. You have to look at all stuff that could help your class not just the stuff that makes life easier.

I'm not very familiar with WoW. Is there a class or character type that can resemble a pony in some way? Or, at least any creature from MLP: FiM's universe? The one that gets closest to that? You know what you have to do then. :rainbowdetermined2:

Personally, Id try to avoid any requirements where the enemy are coded to punish you for actually trying to put effort in, instead brutalising you for having pets etc. Like bullies, they aint worth pandaing to. Especially when you cant just walk in with vastly over powered and just rip them apart instead.

Then again, powerful heros dont tend to last long aganst the forces of good. We have to take them down before they turn to evil and so on as the excuse seems to go?:trollestia:

I am running a tauren prot warrior for the extra hp. Already been set up for the off tank in my raid group main tank is actually a blizzard server admin. He wont be on for the first few days as he is the guy that makes sure the servers dont crash. I am running mining blacksmithing with my guild funneling ore to me to power level it up to provide for the guild.

I played Hunter from patch 1.3 all the way to wrath and enjoy it almost the entire time and most instances late game need a good kiter

also some pets like a rare wolf in duskwood named Lupos have special things like he deals shadow dmg instead of normal dmg which is nice because that ignores armor and the rare cougar 'Broken Tooth' in badlands has a 1.0 sec attack speed compared to the avg 2.0

Warlocks got a great leveling experience, some of the best class quests (at least as alliance) and a free mount is nice when the economy is still low on gold as a new server will.

Hunter is also pretty good, but with a bit more busy work than warlock.

Starting out troll mage myself. Will eventually resurrect my Hunter though.

I might consider playing a witch again - it was the first class I played until they changed the way it worked so much I didn't like it anymore. That was 2011 with the pre-Cataclysm patch. I kinda liked the soul shard system.

Or a warrior.

One thing is clear, I definitely want to play an Undead, just like I used to. All my characters are either Undead or Blood Elves and the latter won't be available.

The Tauren are similar to minotaurs. Other than that, ther aren't many similarities.
If you want to play a "Nature" class, choose a Druid, if you are more for pegasus style, you might want to play a Shaman...

Thank you all for your replies:twilightsmile:

5103271
That's the idea^^ Though in Vanilla there was a limit of DoTs that could be put on a target, so depending on the raid group I might not get to do any...

5103272
Well of course I am not letting Rebirth die. I admit that I might have considered ending it at earlier point that I had first envisioned it, but even if I would have ended up deciding to do that (which I hadn't), then it still would be a proper ending, not just leaving the story as it is.

5103288
I see. I never really tried tanking, I don't like that level or responsibility ;p I practically only play dps. And yeah, I considered playing as a gnome due to their racial stat and buff. However, I am also going to play this game to "immerse" myself in this world and to have as much as fun as I can. Humans' whole starting area (Elwynn, Westfall, Redridge and Duskwood) is more entertaining, and I know I could just easily come do the latter three with a gnome, but I always found it sorta "weird" to do something like that. And while I do like gnomes, I sorta... feel more like myself when I'm playing a human. Of course, I would feel even more myself if we could make a slightly overweight human (helloooo Kul Tirans), but that's not the point. Plus, I really need that reputation buff!

However, there's still 1,5 week before Classic comes out, I might change my mind still.

5103289
Hm, mages are practically like unicorns, and druids can shapeshift into animal forms to serve different roles in a fight, for example a bear. So technically there is a class that resembles Fluttershy's bear friend. Lastly, I always felt that shadow priests and warlocks resemble King Sombra. And taurens resemble minotaurs, too.

5103300
Um, what?

5103387
Sounds like a good plan^^ Hope you have fun^^

5103391
Ah yes, I heard about Broken Tooth, will definetly try to get him on my hunter alt. Damn, it feels weird, having to look up pets not for their look but for their stats and what not xD

5103514
Exactly, which is why I will be going with warlock after all^^

5103730
Hope you have fun^^

5105277
Oh yeah, the undead and blood elves have probably the best starting zones. I think it's partially because those are the places DIRECTLY affected by us in Warcraft 3, making them feel more familiar. Also they have this post-apocalyptic vibe thing going.

I believe that classic is at the patch where they took that restriction out. Also I wasn’t saying to tank as a human just to find a melee class so that the +10 skill bonus isn’t wasted. There’s a fic called which has the M6 as different classes doing a MLP type dungeon. And a fic in the same universe called A Day at the Quest Hub which has Carrot Top as an NPC competing against a goblin (in this fic the universes are connected via portals)

i say go with hunter with a druid friend act as your pet. then again I never play classic I start at the ending of WOTLK

I do wonder what the child of arthas and twilight would look like and be name, I have feeling Uther name will be in it
