Anyone interested in some writing advice for beginners?

I've got some anecdotal tips stored up and wouldn't mind sharing if someone wants to hear them.

On writing "Sweet as Honeydew" and why it will end this year.

I know many of you greatly enjoyed Sweet as Honeydew, and this is what makes it hard to say this:
but I consider writing it a mistake.

I'm DM-ing a D&D campaign over roll20 and update on Sweet as Honeydew

and I have trouble finding players atm. I need 2 more people, so if anyone wants to join us, he'd be very welcome.

The campaign is made in a homebrew setting I don't want to spoil too much about, but it'll focus on a couple factions and intrigue over combat, though there'll be some of that as well. The first session (if I can find 2 more players) would be on Friday, 17:30 GMT+1

    Anyone of you on Roll20?

My roleplaying group just disbanded and im looking for a new one. Have no experience with Roll20 yet though, and I dont know how I feel about joining a group with 6-players, which seems to be the only option

Until Christmas, Sweet as Honeydew will be on hiatus

Simply put, I want Void Trials as a printed book, for myself for christmas, this requires a bunch of work, so I'm currently not working on Sweet as Honeydew until that is completed. it should take at most 3 weeks, after that it'd be too late anyway.

why this next breezie chapter is taking so long · 10:02am Oct 13th, 2019

I know alot of you are hoping for a soon update/asking why its taking me so long. Reason one is the same as always, I'm a terrible procrastinator. But another, more important reason is that I simply didnt have a plan for what to do with the next chapter. really, all I had in my head was "Applejack-Chapter" and a specific conversation at the end of it. but what was gonna happen until then? No idea. it took me a while to get an idea of what I even wanted, as well as figure out roughly how the other chapters would go.

So, if I can give you a good advise from this, write a bit ahead before you start posting chapters. it gives you breathing room if you're in a bit of a creative rut and it assures that you actually have a decent knowledge of what you actually want to do.

currently, its looking like an update next week. I finally have a decent plan (mostly), allowing me to actuallly start writing it out.

I can 100% confirm that writing ahead is a viable strategy.

It's what allowed me to have bi-monthly uploads for my big story without having to worry too hard about deadlines. And it's really nice to have that kind of consistent schedule.

Also, did you want help with the AJ Chapter? Maybe I could shoot a few ideas your way. Only if you want them, though, I don't want to impose.

well, are you fine with being spoiled, because I'd have to tell you what the plan so far is

5137714
I will make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good.
But send the message in PMs as to protect those who wish to remain pure.

its gonna be a bit (I was gaming wih my friend and its always funnier if I get drunk, so you'll need to wait till im sober. im gonna give you the details in a pm this evening (my evening, no idea what your timezone is, im european) thanks for your help, I'll note you as an editor/helper guy/gal whats the word for that- person for the next chapter)

edit: okay, I just read the description on your account, so I now know you're a guy, thank you for helping

5137722
Sounds good. Happy to help!

5137724
by the way, im gonna check out "Finding Friendship todday... or tomorrow... I liked Escapades of Escapism, so I'm excited to check out the other things you're wrtiing. also, give/receive writing advice.

whats your stance on planning stories? How much do you plan before you start writing?

5137729
Typically, I begin writing a story because I get an idea for a few scenes in the middle/ending that I really want to do, and then I ask myself "how can I logically get there?" Finding Friendship was a bit different, as I had the first Chapter Planed out long before I had the major story beats figured out. But now? I know exactly where the story is headed. And it's headed in, what I feel to be, a very good dirrection. Others seem to think so too, as I've received many likes and faves, and it even got featured once or twice. I must be doing something right.

I hope you enjoy the story, by the way! I'd love to hear your feedback!

5137724
speaking off, cause this will help for the future, are you eurpoean/african/american/asian/australian? I dont want to aske where you live specifically, a rough idea of your timezone is enough.
...
actually, you can just tell me your timezone, but I do like knowing what continents people are on

edit: gonna read from monday onwards, and I promise to give feedback

Pacific Daylight Time for me.
At the time of making this comment, it's October 13, 2019, 7:00 AM. That should help.

5137748
ah. the time of me writing this comment is 16:03, October 13th

5137748
so... you're either from greenland or Canada?

5137751
Okay, a bit of a time delay there, but it should be fine.

Also, fair warning for Finding Friendship, but I probably have a bad habit of redundant language. It gets better later on in the story, I hope, but I figured I should warn you of my ineptness.

5137754
America, actually.

Thank you for both the heads up and that reminder!
