    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

Scribbler has done a reading of ambion's Melt!

Almost done with the new readers. This one includes my second evaluation of Jacob M. Keene, if anyone was aching to find out my final verdict on him. :B

Wishing Werelights by Ice Star
Reading by Scribbler, Animelodie and Agent0Fluffy
Genre: Comedy/What-If
Out on her own, trying to put her life back together, Starlight literally falls in with a madmare.
"Whackadoodle" is the best word to describe this story. I suspect a large reason it was written was so the author could dump some Trixie and Starlight backstories on us; those stories are unique and crazy. (I never want to see another fic where Starlight didn't beat up Cadence when they were foals.) Trixie herself is absolutely bonkers, and because of this, there's maybe less actual romance than a Starxie fan might desire. But even still, this was totally worth the read, not just for the original ideas, but for the comforting idea that Starlight and Trixie would find each other even if Starlight didn't take Twilight up on her student offer. It's a really sweet thing.

Be Good to Your Daughters, for They Become Mothers by Posh

She is unfortunately too quiet for my needs. The guy she's reading with isn't, but he's got mic quality issues. Also, her reading was just kind of okay (I don't know what she said, but it wasn't 'praline'), though I do appreciate the sound effects here and there. Wish she'd read the title of the story at least. I'd only recommend for headphone listeners.
Genre: Slice of Life
One day, Granny Smith will have to reconcile that her daughter-in-law is a Pear. Today is not that day.
I don't think I will ever not have room in my life for Perfect Pear-inspired stories. Also, you don't see too many from Granny Smith's POV, young, old or otherwise, so this really stands out. I just loved watching Granny do her darnedest to stay set in her ways and mad at Pear Butter; sometimes, it came easily, other times you could tell she was forcing it. She's got a lot of things on her mind, and time's catching up with her at this point in her life; it makes for excellent internal drama. I also enjoyed watching Pear Butter try her best to fit in at Sweet Apple Acres by constantly treating apples like pears. You can't blame her, well unless you're Granny Smith anyway. It was endearing. Posh did a great job writing both the Apple parents, not to mention Granny herself. This is really worth reading.

Quiet Night by Cynder
Reading by Illya Leonov
Genre: Dark
A creature from the Everfree Forest becomes enamored with Fluttershy.
This bills itself a romance, but I thought it was creepy as fuck. c.c Those inclined to see themselves in this stalker, a literal monster, are likely going to focus on how it considers itself misunderstood, and its noble act at the end of the story, rather than the fact that hanging around out of sight of someone you like is no way to get them to like you. Regardless, the writing is good, and I was very pleased we never discover the identity of the creature. It could be literally anything, and likely nothing we ever saw in the show.

Sci-Twi's Letter by Marwile
Reading by Jacob M. Keene, MuseScript & SpinelStar
Okay, the second try was worth it. I would like to note, it took me a while to find a reading that was actually him narrating in his regular voice, but his regular voice is just fine! But that means I don't know how great an example this is (he works with a ton of VAs, which is awesome), and it does sound a bit like he's recording in a closet. Regardless, this was better than the first of his readings I tried, so he'll go on the list!

Genre: EQG
Twilight Sparkle contemplates her friendships as she moves into her new college dorm room.
This is a really good look into Sci-Twi's psyche, the mind of someone highly organized and highly prone to anxiety. That's my big takeaway, though I'll also say I loved the ending. Nothing majorly eye-opening here, but a good story nonetheless.

Applejack walks Rarity home after a drunken party.
Wow, story #350? c.c Amazing that this person showed up to post this single story, then left within a year, and yet somehow it was found for this reading! And it's pretty good. Mostly, it's about Applejack being a gentlemare and not taking advantage of a drunken Rarity, no matter how much she'd like to. Good life lessons! On the downside, the writing is a little telly, and the comedic half of the story doesn't really fit into the shipping half. There's not really an ending, for instance, though Pinkie's written really well and Rainbow's antics were hilarious, at least for the reading. So, in all, not amazing, but still a good read.

These fine people call themselves The Audio Project. And if this guy always narrates? This'll be good. The VAs had varying audio quality, but none were too bad for my needs. If you ignore that, this was a fine recording indeed! To the list!
Genre: Western HiE
Into Appleloosa, a stranger came, just when he was needed.
In a lot of ways, I have no idea what to make of this. It's a perfectly fine story, maybe a little tropey in terms of Western plots, but the writing was good. All the "how did things get this way" is contained in the description, which is maybe a mark against it; I also wondered if this couldn't be termed a "humanity, fuck yeah!" kind of story, but all that's actually compared is how well ponies make gunpowder. It's not exactly space marines kicking the butt of some evil creature that kidnapped the princesses, in other words. In all, a novelty.

but it's part of a larger story i don't have the time for; y'know author struggles and all :(
If you do like Cadance having to deal with shit though, I've got some of those already! (Including but not limited to getting gross mail, feeling inadequate, bein' a big ol' sad girl, kinda death experiences, wearing a sweater, and getting beat up by a ghost. That counts, right?)

That was a fun time in the fandom. :)

Okay, the second try was worth it.

Glad to read it!

I would like to note, it took me a while to find a reading that was actually him narrating in his regular voice,

I've made playlists of fanfic readings read in my natural voice if you'd just like to listen to those. Here's a link to one of them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhJczXktlzeS1varMyUCRTdXPN6pWZmCn

and it does sound a bit like he's recording in a closet.

At this point, I don't remember whether I recorded that particular reading in the walk-in closet in the second place I used to live in or not, but it's entirely possible as I've done that from time to time.

I'm glad to read that you liked my Sci-Twi's Letter reading, and put me on your list for more fanfic readings!
