A hard decision. · 11:05am Mar 6th, 2020
So I've been noticing something a lot lately. I haven't been making much major progress with chapters. I've gotten them out, yes, and they've been satisfactory. I actually really love what's come out, even with my slowed pace.
But I'm hitting a lot of walls lately. I get half a sentence in at most on some days, and I second-guess even that much every single time.
And I think it's some kind of burnout.
So, I decided to do something... really difficult.
For those of you not in the know, I've been writing every single day since Christmas Eve of 2017, all on this series of stories. That's 801 days, if you're counting. It's the biggest thing I do with my life right now. But I think I may need to take some time to scale these latest walls.
I need to take a step back.
I need a break.
So, for the moment, I'm going to put "One Bolt, Spreading Harmony" on hiatus. Not for too long. I don't intend to forget about it. But I need to put things into perspective before I continue. Maybe iron out t he kinks on some of the other ideas swimming in my brain.
I love my work, and I'm dedicated to finishing it. All of it. I just need to stop for a little while.
Buuuuuuut, that doesn't mean I'm going to leave you all empty-handed. Or hooved. Whichever you wanna go with.
Before I start this hiatus, I'm going to give you all a sneak peek of the chapter I've been working on. Obviously, spoiler alert. But I hope you enjoy it!
-"GIRLS!" Rarity shouted, bursting through the door to Sugar Cube Corner. Twilight and Starlight sat with Nova and the Cake Twins, while Pinkie stood behind the counter. Fluttershy sat with Applejack and Rainbow Dash over a deck of cards. All eyes turned from their activities to meet those of Ponyville's featured fashionista, whose grin was so wide she seemed to grow extra dimples. “You are not going to believe who is getting married, and asked me to plan the ceremony!”
Twilight tilted her head. “Umm… Hoity Toity and Photo Finish?” Rarity shook her head.
“Spitfire and Fleetfoot?” Rainbow guessed, likewise earning a head shake.
Applejack smirked, nudging the Wonderbolt next to her. “Rainbow Dash an’ herself?” Rainbow sent a glare back to the farmer, but quickly gave way to a mutual laugh with the rest of the ponies.
Starlight pondered for a moment, then raised her hoof in realization. “What about Double Diamond and Party Favor?”
“Not quite, but you’re getting warmer.” Rarity answered, hiding a giggle behind her hoof.
Fluttershy reached under the table, holding a bluish-white bunny and a raccoon in her forelegs. “What about my little friends here?” The animals looked lovingly at each other, the raccoon reaching forward to hold the bunny’s paw.
The coutourier cooed at the furry creatures, walking over and petting them both. “Sadly, no. Though I would be happy to if you’d like!”
“Ooh! Ooh! Me next!” Pinkie began, hopping over the counter. “Is it… Gummy and Harry? Zephyr Breeze and Bulk Biceps? Flim and Flam? Cranky and Matilda!”
“Pinkie, Cranky and Matilda got married years ago” Applejack corrected.
“Yeah, but we didn’t get to go!” She crossed her forelegs in a huff. “I hate missing a good party.”
"No, it's not any of them! Any more guesses?" Rarity looked around the room, finding that it had fallen silent. "Iiiiiit's…" She sprang up to her hind legs, spreading her forelegs as wide as possible. "Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon!"
There was a full measure of silence, leaving Rarity to wonder what exactly was going on in her friends’ heads. Her smile faltered a little, her hooves returning to the floor until-- “FINALLY!!!” the simultaneous reply sent Rarity reeling.-
That is a big decision... I'm sorry it's come to this, butt I hope this helps you getting back into the swing of things. As always, I'm here to help if I can.
