So... How's your Quarantine going? · 1:22am Mar 16th, 2020

Been watching this develop over the weeks, with a lot of help from someone's best friend. Ireland's going on lockdown officially on Thursday, and officially from Tuesday or earlier, our army is on yellow alert according to rumours. Fun times. Sorry its been a long ass time since I let you guys know I'm still alive, i'm currently just carrying on, carrying on for now.

Look at it this way, quarantine is just enforced writing time!

Fuck the Flu(fear)!

I do not go out much so I can not say much. I did get my oil changed in my car today and hit the store. We did have some food in the store. But there was a lot of stuff that was out. Makes me happy a number of people I watch to on Youtube where saying hay get some stuff from the store just to be on the safe side.

The place I work at is having most of its people work from home. I am one of the people that have to go into a location. I am a computer tech. So if the people are having a problem and I can not fix the problem by remoting into the computer they will have to bring the computer to me. So they have the techs in different areas. I think its going to be strange being the only person in the place.

I am in Fort Worth, Texas In the USA.

Good, all the food at the local markets is pretty much out of stock though. Hopefully I can pull an atomic shrimp and live off just a few dollars worth of food lol.

Reached my town earlier today! :yay:

5221263
That's certainly true, I will admit.

5221266
Even if you are convinced the fear is over blown. You should prepare to get some supplies for you and your family for the next month or so. If for no other reason than because everyone else in your area is likely to panic, and whittle down supplies and you'll be left stuck when you run low on needed things. Take care and proper precautions to not be infected anyway.

5221269
Stay safe, Texas doesn't look like the worst hit part of America, I'm glad to hear you can work from home. stay safe man.

5221271
Shoppers in your area are smarter than most, lol. I'm seeing empty shelfs of TP next to full shelves of food and vitamin supplements.
Maybe you can get some cheap beans and rice or, and I recommend this, potatos. Potatos last for fucking ever.

5221275
God bless you and yours, stay safe.

Bought two packs of tobacco. Should manage two weeks, i guess.

I think the only reason this is being hyped as absurdly as it is, is because it is an election year.:facehoof:
Glad to hear from you, prayers!

I ran out of biscuits and had to try to make some from scratch. Emphasis on try. Sadly because my area is heavily effected and I don't have the best lungs nor the best immune system I can't leave my house. Although I am excited that we are probably close or at the halfway point so things world wide should slow down and the exponential curve of infected should start to slow down. Hbu?

You live on, very good to hear. Sucks that the situation in your area has deteriorated as far as it has. Is your employment at risk if things go all the way south?

5221276
I self quarantine anyway, because I'm a largely unemployed gamer on disability. Did just get a job as a weekend merchandizer for 3 stores. Watching so many dipshits stocking up on toilet paper...do they think the Coronavirus gives diarrhea?

Plus side to being a poor sap:robust immune system, because who can afford antibiotics to fight your battles for you?
Downside:Death is preferable to going to the debtprison.

Typical Handyman, updates us right before we all get Covid 19 and the economy tanks and everything goes to hell.

I work at a hospital in California. Currently on day 6/12 of my work "week." People are going abso-fucking-lutely nuts.

In other words, tomorrow's just another bad Monday.

Good to see you're alive though. For now...

5221276
It really doesn't help that I'm in a college town, so half the population doesn't even know how to properly sanitize themselves.:ajbemused:

Edit: Sadly, that's not the students. It's most of the Professors and College workers.

5221277
Priorities, huh?

5221278
In America, its definitely being politicized but I am looking at it from a worldwide angle, this is bigger than just an election year in the US.

5221283
I am alright. Funnily enough I dont know anyone in my nearby area whose been affected yet.

5221284
No my employment hasnt been affected I assure you.

5221286
Mostly psychological. Buying big packets of things feels like a big substantial purchase and feels like your actually doing something major to prepare topped off with the common reminder that toilet paper is the first thing people forget in an emergency, thereby resulting it being the first thing people remember in an actual emergency, and lastly genuine fear over how long they may have to go without easily resupplying their family spurred on by seeing everyone else buy toilet paper mixed in with the other misconceptions previously mentioned.

Virtually none of them are doing this because they think the virus causes diarhea.

Although in some cases it might depending on how someone's immune system responds, because you know, virus. But that'd be a minority since its not a main symptom.

5221298
A wizard is never late nor early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

You have my sympathies working in a hospital of all fucking things during this crisis

5221299
Havent universities been suspended where you live yet? Literally everywhere else is doing that.

I got canned food thankfully, and some bread. I won't starve for the foreseeable future lol.

Me, I'm currently sick during finals week. So I'm kinda stuck, I'm hoping it isn't Corona since I'm one of the people who will be gravely impacted. So, I've kinda not left my room in 4 days now... and I got finals to think about. Yippee.

5221277

Covid comes to town, how am I prepared?

Toilet paper? Pfft, nah, I'll just wipe with my hand!

Food? Pfft, nah, I'll just eat "stray" neighborhood pets.

Tobacco? Stocked up like a motherfucker, thank you for asking :rainbowlaugh:.

They are still making me go to work :/

Watching the golden state and wondering why we think quarantines are ineffective and the NY governor have a near breakdown on live tv :facehoof:

5221263

And then the power goes out and Handy realizes that all along he's been a character in the Twilight zone.

With my family it was the media telling everyone to remain calm that convinced them that corona was serious. Any other time the media would play it up for clicks.

It's times like these that I'm really glad my family took up farming lol.

Have fun while you're stuck inside. Finally having a break will be nice.

One, I did not buy more toilet paper. Disinfectants have run out in the stores but I usually wash my hands thoroughly anyway, cough into my elbow instead of my hand and dislike touching the bars in the trains. The supermarkets do not have significant shortage of food, they increased the replacement ratio.

Two, I still have to work. Our small office could buy licences for home office work if they had to so that is not the big issue. We just hope to get contractors for our new building project... it has me a little worried but I have enough savings for a few months.

I spent this weekend across the country with the friends with whom I would have gone to the big Leipzig Book Convention (it got cancelled, obviously). Instead, we played board games, which I greatly enjoyed. Now I am on the train ride home, better to hurry home before they shut down any connections.

My Wing Tsun training has been forbidden by the city so I decided to train alone, have walks with friends and use my longboard a lot. Being single means I now need to find a different way to socialize in order to retain mental health. I also like to play World of Warcraft with the same friends I visited yesterday.

In conclusion, it helps to plan ahead even if things are fine and stay calm when they don't. This, too, shall pass.

Country went on lockdown basically yesterday. Working from home for the first time in friggin' forever.
No thing like free time, or semi-holiday. Work from home. You have a phone, you have a computer, we facilitate possibilities to get to your business related email and tools... So work from there.
They'd rather not have me in since I show mild symptoms of a cold.

Basically what everyone above just said. :facehoof:

I got fuckin corona so not great atm, am young & healthy though, so I'll be sorted in a few more days.

Not having corona, so that's great I guess, but half the ppl at my place of work got temporarily laid off today due to low work load. Feel bad for them, just sitting at home, doing nothing but binge watch Netflix, play games, go skiingm etc. Poor ppl...

Regarding toilet paper and a few other essentials, the Chinese report that a mild case of Covid 19 can persist as long as 37 DAYS! I don’t know about you, but my family (3) goes through a LOT of TP in a month! We’re not hoarding when we buy bulk amounts, we know there’s plenty on-hand in warehouses. The problem is that when you’re quarantined and you run out of TP in the third week, you CAN’T just bop out and get another 4-pack! The same is true for the other essentials. We’re stocking up for when we CAN’T leave the house.

On another note, I’m glad we made our trip to Ireland last summer! Not to mention the trips to Universal and Disneyworld Resorts last spring!

Thank god for the internet, or I’d lose my mind with no one to talk to (communicate) except family for a month!

I pity Japan, if they have to cancel the Tokyo Summer Olympics, it means their looking a full-blown recession because of the closings of so many businesses as a precaution. If they get hit by the virus, they’re looking at a depression!

I just pray Africa stays out of it. There are only five hospitals in Africa equipped to handle an epidemic. In the poorer countries the spread would be impossible to stop.

D48

Things are fairly easy for me. I got stocked up to 30 days of food when the CDC said to get ready and have been more or less staying there since. On the work front I'm between contracts anyways with plenty of money in the bank so I don't have to even think about work, I just eat more canned soup and go out to eat less.

How's the enforced writing time going for you?

Back and knees killing me. Got co open at work to keep shelves stocked and iug I am out of shape. Long as my twisted back holds I’ll be good.

5221312
Chuck some bread in the freezer and buy some more and you'll easily double the length of time you can have bread should things get worse. If you have a freezer that is.

5221331
Haven't you guys been sent home yet? Schools and Unis are being shut down everywhere.

5221336
A man's gotta have his priorities.

5221397
Stay safe man. I know it sucks, but sooner or later unless your job is neccessary, you'll end up working at home before this gets too bad.

5221409
>Quarantines are ineffective.

Frankly the Golden State is one of the worst potential areas for this to be the Italy of the United States in terms of this sudden getting very bad very fast in an area, that state government is retarded.

5221411
Yeah that was something I noticed early on, was all the media, as soon as it got undeniably bad in China, were all saying it was a nothing burger, the exact opposite of how they behaved during the Ebola, Swine Flu, Bird Flu and other epidemics, which tripped one of my paranoia alarms. Sure, in America right now, news media is politicising it, but thats because the journalistic class are all amoral scumfuckers and this is an election year, but thats only because they could no longer pretend it wasn't going to be a problem in the United States anymore.

5221417
Unironically potatoes would be one of the best things you could grow in an apocalypse.

5221424
You too, I wish you and yours all the best.

5221443
Hit up your friend on Discord, buy Tabletop simulator on Steam, browse through the fucking endless mods for customized games and play tabletops in real time. There's even full on DnD models and tables and shit, to let you go full Gary Gygax if thats your thing. It'll help you guys pass the time even separated by distance and quarantine.

5221458
Hope you get better man, glad you can work from home.

5221479
Stay safe then, for both you and yours.

5221486
I'll pray for you, get well soon man and stay inside.

5221569
...Skiing?

5221690
Japan isn't the only one facing a full depression, we all are, this situation has utterly fucked the markets to the point that a crash like what happened in 1929 is not beyond the realm ofpossibility. That said, I hope you guys stock up well.

And the coronavirus does stay active on exposed surfaces for an obscenely, unnaturally long time, that much is true, but I am not sure on what the exact number of days though I am sure its more than 30. Unfortunately Africa already has it, God help them.

5221797
Enforced writing time is enforced. Glad to hear you're prepped for this.

5222110
Working the stores huh? Make sure you get enough sleep and water in you to keep going for the supply distribution dude, stay safe.

5222125
Downvote guy is best guy.

5222203
Mood music.

5222349
Yeah, I’ve been debating fleeing to Colorado, the franchise I work for is completely shutting down over this. Just having a hard time getting my family willing to run for a couple of months.

Hopefully the local gov gets their act together but I doubt it.

Ps: the virus can remain in the air for ~3 hours after an infected person sneezes/coughs/breathes, fomite survival on metal and plastic for ~9 days, and asymptotic transmission is the driver of the virus. Longest confirmed asym was 27 days. And my money is that SARS-Cov-2 will be at least as fatal as SARS. Good luck and be safe! Maybe Israel’s vaccine will bail out the western world. :applecry:

Well, that was amusing. China decided to pick an insult fight with Trump with their ridiculous lie about this being a US Army bioweapon (come on, at least blame someone plausible like the CIA with your lie), so he retaliated by calling this the "Chinese Virus" and the media did their best to make sure everyone is up to date on the new name. I have no idea what made them think picking an insult fight with Trump of all people was a good idea, but the results are hilarious, especially since they were already angry about some people calling it the "Wuhan Virus".

5222372
Getting out of California is definitely a good idea. Even before this pandemic I had decided to avoid taking a contract there because there were warnings of outbreaks of medieval diseases which is not something I'm interested in experiencing first hand. I could hide from most of the stupidity and charge extra for the absurd cost of living, but Bubonic Plague is where I draw the line.

5222395
Its gets better, just today China in retaliation expelled WaPo and other major American news media enterprises from the country.

Please excuse me while I play sad songs on the world's smallest violin.

5222372
I don't think I'd optimistically agree on those numbers for survival in exposure given the other sources of news I'm getting about this, but hopefully, I am wrong and you're right.

That said, getting the absolute FUCK out of the major cities is a must at the very least, even if you cant flee the state.

5222349
I heard it stays active on any surface for 2 weeks.
2 weeks...how the hell can you NOT touch something that other people have already touched!? Like doorknobs, sinks, light switches, etc. :facehoof:

Yes and no, most semester schools just extended their spring break while K-12 schools closed down. I'm on quarters, so this was my finals week.

While everything has moved online, well... I'm still here. Lmao

It sucks.

The college I teach at finally kicked us out fully today. While we're still planning on being back in a few weeks, I'm fairly certain we're going to pull what UK (University of Kentucky) decided earlier today, which is to have all classes online for the rest of the year. Graduation ceremonies will probably be cancelled as well.

5221411
A cynical part of me wonders how much of the media's soft-pedaling has to do with China more overtly flexing its influence in recent years to minimize or even outright quash negative reporting on it and its affairs in other countries?

5222406
Not to mention that China is threatening to withhold medicine and medical supplies from the US “because it was their virus” despite Wuhan having Chinas only military bio lab

D48

5222406
Yeah, I'm right there with you. We'll see if it changes the tune of the press on China, but my money is on no.

5222487
If they do, that'll be the end of China. That is straight up biological warfare and regarded under the same weapons of mass destruction heading as nuclear weapons. It's not an exaggeration to say a nuclear strike would be a proportional response to that, and while I don't think that would happen immediately, I would be very surprised if it didn't directly lead to a full-scale war.

The good news is that Putin isn't stupid so I don't see Russia following China down that road which should make the war relatively quick, but it'll still be very ugly.

>Reported for not being a chapter announcement.

Jokes aside, I hope you're doing okay. I just started a reread of the story because I've run out of reading material and I'm very happy that it's just as good as I remembered. I just hope you continue. Out of the hundreds of stories I've enjoyed on this site, this will one of the handful of fics that will hurt if it dies.

Is Handy going to get an update any time soon?

Well, I'm glad you're carrying on! Stay safe during this quarantine thing going on.

Strangly enough, some authors decided to continue writing, and actually update their +3year old incomplete stories.
Shocking, I know. And almost at the same time.
I don't think there would be anything similar to that in the near future ever again.

5253288
you feelin ded tho?

I'm glad to see you're still doing alright.
