Someday, I'll stop writing silly comedy stories. However, today isn't "someday".

Director's cut: That Afternoon I Lied About Impregnating an Alicorn Princess · 6:31pm Apr 7th, 2020

When i wrote the predecessor story That Morning I Woke Up With an Alicorn Princess, I made a small change to allow a prequel for it to eventually happen. If you're read the blog for it, you'll know I asked if you'll rather first have a prequel or a sequel to That Morning I Woke Up With an Alicorn Princess, and the sequel was the most wanted. Therefore, here we are with That Afternoon I Lied About Impregnating an Alicorn Princess. I'm still planning on writing a prequel to That Morning I Woke Up With an Alicorn Princess, but it's not going to be for a while.

Before I started writing, I knew I'd need to pull off a double subversion for this story, but bringing in Sunset Shimmer was something I only thought of right before I started writing it. I considered taking it even further and in a very different direction, but more on that later.

As for noteworthy edit changes, there are four in this story. The first change is where the table, with the pregnancy test sticks and cupcakes, and Eric were in relation to Twilight's throne. Originally, Eric was on one side of the throne and the table was on the other. Later, I remembered Spike's throne is to the right of Twilight's throne, so after that embarrassing oversight, I edited it so the table was between Twilight and Eric, but both Eric and the table as to Twilight's left. Not that this next part has anything to do with this story, but in my Eric Reed stories when Twilight, Eric, and Spike are standing together, Spike is always to Twilight's right and Eric is on Twilight's left: this is to show that, no matter how close Twilight and Eric are, Spike is still Twilight's #1 as her "right-hoof dragon". The canon show doesn't always treat Spike well, but at least I'll try to make sure the little guy gets respect. If you're read my caught and Punished story, you'll know one of the best examples of what I mean.

But back to the edits of this story. The second edit was about the cupcakes themselves. There were only two on the table before editing started, but I later changed it to five. This was to foreshadow that Eric and Twilight had more help -- Sunset -- than Eric let on in his narration, as well as give Eric, Twilight, and Sunset, as they called it, a celebratory cupcake. I thought about adding three cups of juice for them, each with ice, for them to drink, which would have played on the saying "revenge is best served cold", but I chose not to.

The third change was when Starlight fainted a second time. Initially, she didn't, but thought it would be fun to have her do it again. Overall, this didn't change much, but one line that had to go that's noteworthy is what she said after Eric brought up Shining Armor. When he did, after Spike said that he and Twilight would talk to him, Starlight said that, if it came down to it, she'd protect him.

The fourth edit was about Eric bringing out, in narration, how he was protective of his human big sisters in his world. He didn't at first, but added it to show a side of him that he has, but stories with him can't really use. The part about him being okay with Starlight and Trixie going out was added at the same time.

Now about what I said about thinking of taking it further with the double subversion. Before I thought about Sunset's role, I thought about going in a different direction, and have the second part of the prank in a way that made Twilight really think she got pregnant. This part of the prank would have been Eric doing it as payback for what she put him through in "Alicorns and Beards".

The reason I didn't was because I usually don't have direct references to the other spin-off stories with Eric Reed, unless the story it's referencing is the story's predecessor. Stories may have references to Eric's origin story A Giant Adventure to Equestria, but usually not the other spin-off stories with him. If I did have Eric find a way to prank Twilight too, the ending to That Afternoon I Lied About Impregnating an Alicorn Princess would have obviously been quite different. Whether Sunset would have appeared or not would have depended on if Eric needed her help for it. A story with Eric getting payback on Twilight would have to be in a sequel to Alicorns and Beards. In fact, since the ending of Alicorns and Beards didn't go over like I hoped, I've wondered about writing a sequel to fix that, but wasn't sure if there would be enough of an interest to do it.

EDIT on 04/11/20: Something I forgot to mention was the part where Eric said this line:

“Sorry, I wasn't really listening. I was too busy thinking about how I got an alicorn PREGNANT!”

This was based on this similar, hilarious line Sci-Twi said in the EQG "Spring Breakdown" special when she was freaking out over being in pony form.

"Sorry, I wasn't listening. Because we're PONIES!"

To be honest, I don't think we need a prequel. I think the story is fine just how it is, sequel and all. However, I wouldn't mind your next story including a prank...
