“I am Princess Celestia of the Canterlot House of Representatives. I am Princess Celestia of the Luna House, a princess from the Canterlot house of House Luna. I am also Princess Cadance, the second-in-command of House Luna and the eldest daughter in House Celestia.”
The guards stared at her with eyes wide.
For the rest of the session, no other members of Equestria's royal family would speak. But at least the Princess of the night had to talk for five minutes and twenty seconds.
This was not their first time speaking out in public against the ban on the use of Discordian rituals, and they might not have had much time to speak. But the last time the ban had been lifted was some years ago, so the situation was fairly familiar.
The Princess of the hour, meanwhile, had become increasingly irritable while the Princess of the night had been silent. She had insisted that they go the extra mile and have more royal guards in attendance.
It was only later when Discord finally got an opportunity to speak, and his tone was almost as abusive as usual. It was more than the usual tone, though, as Discord spoke in Canterlot's royal accent with one of his old, hoof-pony-like grins that I recall, which made his words even more distasteful to me.
And the reason that there are only two names: Discord and himself.
“Is the Queen of Time a unicorn?”
Chrysalis asked.
What do they know about the unicorn princess? You haven't been paying attention.”
She then pointed to the pony on the other side of them.
I didn't need words to explain to the next guest that Chrysalis is a powerful, insane, and dangerous thing. But in the same breath, I could have said, ‘is the pony an Alicorn?’
The guards were quick to say that they couldn't comment. But when I got close and shook his head slightly, they gave me permission.
Chrysalis turned her head to Chrysalis by their shoulder and spoke in a clipped voice.
“There are so many different names for all the different parts of life, but the one thing that each of your people have in common is that they all live in the same universe. So to get one of our names right is a significant achievement?”
The Princess seemed slightly bewildered and then spoke again.
“I'm sorry, but as far as any of you can tell, there hasn't been anything more dangerous than myself and her daughter, Princess Cadence, but I'm quite sure that you can imagine a world in which either of you died and not seen. And then if you've read that I wrote a book called The Book of Chaos. That book was written using the Discordian ritual, which you can use to teach the Discordian style of speech around a different planet or universe than your own.”
Her eyes narrowed further.
“And that planet or universe isn't the Moon Country, is it? That's not Earth.”
With my head pointing to Luna’s room, the other guests could guess what she’d meant. I could only guess that she believed that the Princess wouldn’t have thought the world of Luna very well, given that Luna had been the most successful pony of all the stallion children.
And what was it that the Queen of Time said in the book that she didn’t know?
The reason I was waiting for her response is that I was waiting for what she could possibly have in mind for the princesses. She’d never explain what she wanted to do if there was only one or if she’d give the whole thing away.
And if she was going to be so honest with me to make sure that I’d understand, she had to know exactly what I was waiting for.
I hoped that when I finally got the answer, she’d tell me before Celestia and Luna left. I don’t think Celestia wanted to be the final judge of a child’s future.
She did appear to be giving Luna’s answers carefully.
If she wanted to make her speech in Canterlot Castle, she had to ask someone from the Queen's Court. I'd have to make sure that none of us took advantage of the royal privilege of not revealing our identities, of course, but if I wanted a final warning before the Queen departed, I was happy to take an extra-ordinary request.
What she asked for was a copy of the Harmony of Elements
