Hey guys! I’ve been having this weird story idea for AGES now, and I can’t get it out of my head so I thought I would put it up on a blog. I’d loved to hear your guys thoughts on it. I really want to go ahead with it but I don’t know it would work or the time it’s set. I don’t know if people would even be interested in a story like this, or if this idea would be completely stupid.
Summary:
What if Princess Luna ended up being Sunset Shimmer’s real mother? I mean, could be possible right? The idea is that Princess Luna’s had a filly before she just became Nightmare Moon. Jealous of her sister getting all the attention even though she’s just had a filly. A royal baby, but Princess Celestia still obviously got all the attention more than Sunset. (Luna still wants to be the ruler) fights with her sister and Celestia banishes her to the moon. Which then, leaves the filly (Sunset) with Celestia who trains her up as her student (Sunset doesn’t know she’s related, or knows about her Mother) Celestia comes up with a story when Sunset was left in her care.
When Sunset is much older reads the story about Nightmare Moon after finding hidden boxes in Celestia’s room and finds stuff of Luna’s. Celestia tells her about it (not mentioning that Luna is her mother) Sunset finds out in time. Later, arguing with Celestia about it, demanding to be a Princess just like her mother would want. Celestia refuses. Sunset, in spite of Celestia jumps through the mirror and steals Twilight’s crown to overthrow Celestia.
Obviously, the big question: Is Vice Principal Luna Sunset’s counterpart Mom? Well, what i was thinking is that Vice Principal Luna never had her daughter (something may of happen or VP Luna didn’t have any kids) and then after the Formal. Takes Sunset in. (At first Sunset is convinced that VP Luna is her Mom.) Then after Rainbow Rocks happens Sunset could finally be reunited with Princess Luna (her mother)
I’m not sure if this would work, and it’s a fic that’s not really been done before. It will obviously be set in an Alternative Timeline, but I just don’t know how to add up all the times, Luna was banished for 1000 years so I really don’t know how to work around that. Any help would be great :) Also, I wanted to rate it Mature, since when Sunset entered through the portal to the human world her past before and during CHS is quite dark and if anyone wants to take up for grabs, you can go ahead! Even if you want to PM and I can tell you more ideas on in it. I have loads of ideas for this story but I’m too scared to share it.

I would go for it if I were you. I'm unfortunately not of legal age in my country to read mature stories, but I think it's a great idea.

It's a good idea. However, there are a couple of problems with the timescale as you said above. The first being Luna's release and the flow of the show and how it would match up with the corresponding show of mlp time line. The first and somewhat of an obvious solution to this problem is magic, of course. Specifically, time travel magic. What it if Luna was going to spend Sunset into the future by say five ten years. The reason behind this is that she was planning to take over the kingdom and wanted sunset to be safe. Thus sent her to the future in a time that way she would have had control of the country and be able to raise sunset in a more peaceful setting instead of having to deal resistance fighters and what not. However, during the casting an accident happened, you could have Celestia be the cause of it if you wanted to, thus instead of sending her a couple of years it sent her about 980 to 990 years in the future. Luna in a fit of rage that the incident caused finally had the straw that broke the camel's back. Thus she turned into nightmare moon. It would certainly add more to her character instead of her bcoming nightmare moon out off a fit of jealousy.

On to the second question of Sunset's counter part and VP Luna child issues. I honestly think that Luna must likely wouldn't have had kids, mostly because she still seems on the young side maybe late twenties, early thirties at the most. That being said she'd have to be a teen mom. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just don't think that would be a good idea, especially if you want to give her an angsty past. I feel like that would have pushed her over the edge, especially if it was a miscarriage or something along those lines. I feel like she would take it very harder than considering she probably already had stuff going on at the time. I also feel like she'd be far more self-destructive towards herself and those around her because of something like the above. An interesting thing you could do with sunset though is make it so she finds her counter part but she has long sense been dead and it makes sense considering if we assume that people and ponies are born around the same time that means her human counter part would have been alive around a thousand years ago. This rule is of course excluding being like celestia and Luna, though maybe you can throw some reincarnation in there to explain why celestia and luna keep popping up in history.

Generally, most mature fics are more for handling the tougher questions/mature context like violence, abuse, assault, and self harm or suicide. These fics are more geared towards young adults and above. If it does have sexual content it usually strictly states that in the summary or it has mentions of sex and things like that, but not the actual scenes

Yep, I'm not one for sex fics so it's nice of the authors to mention it when it does come up in the searches. I'm also going of my own experience with the site. So it might be different for others, so do take what I say with a grain of salt. Just to be on the safe side.

Thank you Moonrise!! I like the idea you’ve come up with it. Time travel magic would definitely make sense. Luna could try and sent Sunset to a world where Luna is the ruler, but fails to do so when Celestia steps in and tries to stop her. I don’t know if she could end up in the human world as a baby or in another world where she is raised by another Celestia. Or if the spell doesn’t work Sunset gets injured from it, caused by Celestia which then makes Luna angry. I do really want to go through with this story, but figuring out the timeline is really awkward, then with Twilight and EG1 movie, how would Princess Luna not know that Sunset is her daughter? I don’t know if Celestia would put some spell on Luna to makes her forget, but for Celestia that’s pretty cruel.
