The Voice in the Water

Listen to the crashing of the waves, the flow of a stream, the roar of a waterfall, or the patter of the rain.

    Steel's undead hunting amps

Originally, I had planned to include a large scale battle at Rose’s Blossom during the Festival Arc, culminating with Steel and Raven battling Nightcrawler as he’s about to kill Roseluck and Sunset. Ultimately, I decided that I wanted to go a different route, since it didn’t feel like it would mesh well with the tone of the story. However, when I was drafting and outlining the chapters, I

    Next chapter delayed a bit

    Hey all.

Field season really kicked into gear in early April, so I've been getting home exhausted pretty much every day. That and a bout of creative block means the next chapter of Phoenix-born is probably not going to be out until mid-May at the earliest.

Hazbin Hotel Episode 1 - I'm not sure I'm going to keep watching.

So, after however many years, we finally get Hazbin Hotel. I've been waiting for it to come out since I saw the pilot. When the first episode dropped, I watched it before checking out any reviews or commentary, because I wanted to go in without any preconceptions clouding my view of the series.

And honestly, I'm not sure I'm going to keep watching.

Working on the next chapter, and realizing something I wish I could do.

So, as I've written more of Rising, I've come to realize that there's something I wish I could do with the formatting. Namely, I wish I could have two columns of text, one that would represent the main narrative from Sunset's external perspective, and one that could be used for when Sunset and Philomena are sending, or when Philomena is sharing her perspective. I don't know how easy something

Queen Lumina · 6:56pm Jul 26th, 2020

Needed a break from writing. Had to go into the office to start some lab work. Took advantage of access to a scanner to digitize something I've been working on.

May I present to you:

Lumina, the Phoenix Queen

Edit: I made a rough mock-up of how large Queen Lumina is compared to a royal phoenix. Lumina's about the size of a harpy eagle, so her body's ca. 90cm (3ft.) long, and she's got a 190cm (6ft.) wingspan. For context, royal phoenixes are roughly the size of peregrine falcons.

Got whiplash for a second because my screen name is Lumina, haha!

Blank White eyes...Are They shared between all Phoenixs?

I think the biggest issue is that there's no sense of scale here, since Luminia's alone in a void. Her proportions are almost finch-like, so without anything to compare her to, she feels small to me.

Don't get me wrong, she looks quite cool, but this doesn't quite communicate the sense of majesty the Phoenix Queen should have.

Oh, sorry for the confusion?

Thank you.

Well, in Lumina's case, they're pearly white. In the case of normal phoenixes, they're orange.

Y'know, that's a fair critique. Next time do draw her, I'll try doing something with the other royal phoenixes (Dylis, Vestian, Amara, Akari and Philomena).

She's beautiful.

you should put her to scale with a sun touched i have an image of her being almost as tall as Sunset like a compact emu and a regular phoenix almost as big as a Goshawk or asian eagle ie. queen Lamina 2 meters tall standing and the royal type being a little over a meter long 1.2 -1.6 depending on age and maybe in relation to their bond mate.

Thank you.

Actually, she's about 3ft. long and has a just over 6ft. wingspan. I've added a rough mock-up of her size compared to a 'regular' royal phoenix.

I added a second image with a royal phoenix silhouette for scale.

5323057
thank you i was expecting that the queen of all to be larger but your scale works

You're welcome, I know it'd never happen but a big blow to the stuck ups in the current capital would be Celestia moving the capital somewhere else, and only announcing the move...... after it happens.

So getting up towards my local bird's size. I live among the giants that are California Condors. That is one good sized bird, though. As expected from the queen of the phoenixes!

5323057
Not as large as I was expecting, but this does help a lot. Thanks.

You're welcome. Glad it helps.

I've had the pleasure of seeing California Condors at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Amazing birds.

They really are... Only problem is they like to roost on roofs and can do a great deal of damage without meaning to. But, we put up with it, because awesomeness.

Thanks for the info! (I feel that this song would fit the phoenixes as a traditional ceremonial song or funeral song. What do you think?) Also, take all the time you need! It’s important to work at your own pace. As an artist and aspiring author, I completely understand.

Thanks.

I like the song, and the voice works nicely for the phoenixes, but the lyrics are a little melancholy. Nitoran phoenixes both represent the inevitability of death and the destruction fire can bring, but also life and the warmth and light that come from flame. I think lyrics that would be the most fitting would be about the birth of flame and fire, giving light and warmth to the world, only for the fire to grow, and burn everything in its path, but in the end, from the ashes of the fire, new life comes, and with it, new hope.

Awesome art chief excellent job.
