Latrans

I read things. Pony things. Sometimes. I also have the literary ability of a drunken emu.

My Job · 4:22am Aug 21st, 2020

I live in the Southwest United States. I work in a sand and gravel surface mine. Outside. For 10+ hours a day. This summer has been nothing but insane temperatures. Yesterday I drank 2 gallons of gatorade and a gallon of water. That's a little above average, but not abnormal.

Feel free to ask questions, I'm in a sharing mood, though they probably won't get answered until tomorrow night.

For how many days a week? With those hours, any more than 4 would be basically be torture.

The temperatures out here are actually unreal, I don't even try to go out in mid-day anymore. I used to go out to walk my dogs, but I'm afraid even they might get heatstroke with how insane it's been.

Boss: "Latrans, we need you to come in and run the water truck tomorrow."

Me: "No problem, boss.

Weather: *rains all night completely soaking everything* "Now it's 100+ degrees and extra humid! Bwahahaha!"

So now can tap obsessively at my phone for a couple minutes between random tasks instead of being behind the wheel.

Anyways, I work 6 days a week. Between 60 and 80 hours total, depending on what I'm doing. Today was actually the first time I'd been assigned to a vehicle. I'm almost exclusively outside. As for heat exhaustion/stroke, I haven't seen anything serious. The new guys are supervised and either quit fast or learn to handle it.

The piece of equipment is a feeder. It's where the loader dumps the raw dirt and rock to put it on a conveyor to the crusher. The crusher breaks down any oversized bits then it's sent to the wash plant. The wash plant washes the mud and silt out and sorts the sand and gravel.

So... you essentially work on a rock farm, right? :pinkiehappy:

I'm not surprised by that at all. You have my sympathies, I can't handle the heat, let alone those hellish hours. I can only be out on this weather for so long before i feel like I'm starting to get burned to a crisp.

Yes. This is exactly correct. :rainbowlaugh:
