Status Update · 6:53pm Oct 16th, 2020
Heya, folks. Been a while, huh?
The pace of updates has really slowed down lately, for two reasons.
One is 2020. It's not really anybody's best year, and I've been dealing with crap. I'm not gonna go into any specifics.
The other is that the main story is entirely wrapped up, and the remainder is the epilogue. This has been tricky to get myself motivated for, and also tricky to actually do. I consider it semi-optional but I really wanted to do it, although what it is has changed a few times. I've gotten some more motivation in and I'm hoping to have a completed first draft by this time next week and, in an ideal world, put it up before the end of the month.
After that, who knows. I have a few ideas in mind, but I also do want to see if I can get back in the groove of my big-ass crossover fic. I tried to do that earlier this year, but the memory card for my AT2 game was dead so I'd have to really buckle down and commit some time to replaying it.
Most of the stuff I've been up to hasn't been too interesting, but there is one thing I thought I should mention. With the end of MLP:FiM, I've gotten back into anime a bit, and I've really enjoyed Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, which finished fairly recently. It actually reminded me a lot of FiM, specifically in a "how is a half-hour toy commercial this good, how is it making me feel things like this" way. Since it is a half-hour toy commercial, you can watch it for free on the official Gundam youtube channel (that's the sub version, the dub version isn't complete yet due to, well, 2020 again).
In addition to some really impressive character growth arcs, it's got good mecha action, directed by Masami Obari. It's not necessary IMO to watch the series it's a sequel to, since that just isn't nearly as good; the protagonist is an incredibly bland and uninteresting stock shonen hero. Reading the wikipedia summary of it might help a little though.
It does start slightly slow, but once it hits its stride things get pretty crazy. And yes, Kazami does become a likable character eventually.
Good to hear from you. Looking forward to seeing the epilogue.
Looking forward to the epilogue, and hoping your unspecified crap gets less crappy.

Of course, right after I write that blizz posts an thing that makes me re-re-re-think some stuff that was going in the epilogue. Not that I've been happy with them for a good while. The "subtle" starcraft references get a little stronger each time it happens.
AND THEN World of Warships has a weekend special mission thing that doesn't count clan battles (aka team battles, where I'll be forced to carry a bunch of feckless friends) so I'll be devoting a bunch of free time to that until Monday.
That said, I thought of another similarity between FiM and Re:Rise, or rather Lauren Faust's original, more adventure-oriented pitch. They would both be stories about a team thrown together by chance to go up against a moon-themed enemy.
Good to see your doing ok and hope things get better for you. This was a really fun story and I loved how you wrote sunset.
