Remakes of old Games?

What do you think of remakes/remasters of old games? I think it's pretty cool when done right. I am enjoying old games like Age of Empires 2 brought back.

Some of these games become so old. They can't really run anymore. Or they are missing some items to make them run.

No matter how many fancy bells and whistles they add, the original Pong will always be better than any remake. Sometimes, you just can't improve on perfection. That, and a really simple concept that has no room to expand due to how simple it is and that adding anything else would potentially turn it into a different game as a whole.

When they're done properly remakes are really good and not only improve on the original but bring up to date for modern gamers. I expect, however, more remasters coming out over the next few years with some games only needing a graphical 'top up', mainly PS3 games. There's quite a few of those that people would pay good money to play with better graphics, higher resolution and frame rates without needing the older console.

Wishful thinking for PS3 games I know, but still, a guy can wish.

As someone who still has he's old NES, Super NES and Sega Genesis I love when they bring back some of my favorite games of yesteryear.
As long as they're upfront about weather it is a remake (ala Resident Evil) or a re-release (ala Mario 3D)

Dunno, I just really hate the idea of selling used dusty goods second time for almost a full price.
It's borderline swindle.
For old DOS gems one always has DOSBox. For early Windows ones one easily can use ScummVM or set up a virtual machine with an old Win 95 or 98.

Games I'm waiting to be remade: vs what was remade
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
Beyond Earth was shit.

Master Of Orion 2. A bitch to get working. I think it needs MSDOS??
I'm having a ton of fun with Stellaris (+100 mods) and Distant Worlds Universe was okay too.

Transport Tycoon 2. The MSDOS version is a pain to get to work but I think there's a windows version
OpenTTD is good enough but I'd like something more modern that uses more than a single CPU core. Hell even Stellaris uses a single CPU core :/

Ultima Online. Possibily the first MMO? Never seen something like it since.

I heard there's a fan mod that overhauls the game but I'd love a modern remake.

Elite 2: Frontier. One of the first "do what ever you want, go where ever you want" open world space games I ever played.
Elite Dangerous. I've had far too much fun just going from one side of the galaxy to the other like some kinda Space Trucker :D

Whatever game the Gendo Ikari Shinkicker LP is from. I don't remember the name at the moment, but I did at some point and found out that I wasn't actually computer-savvy enough to make it work on a modern laptop.

(Upon actually Googling it, apparently it was actually released on Steam in 2016, so never mind?)

The MW2 remake looks and sounds worse than the original. If it ain't broke dont fix it.

I'd love to see a remaster of Buck Bumble its a great game that deserves a remake
