"In the Grip of Fear" Follow-Up · 3:26am Mar 7th, 2021
It's been more than a month since I impulse-wrote "In the Grip of Fear", which is more than an eternity for a fanfic site, maybe even as long as five-ever! Even so, I'd like to take this chance to thank everyone who read it and liked it (or read it and didn't like it—that's valid!), especially to SockPuppet and Captain_Hairball for promoting it on their blogs. The story received far more attention than I could have dreamed of, and even made it into the Feature box—for all of a few hours, but still a surprise to a no-name like me!
The other reason I'm writing this blog post is to announce that I've made some small changes to the story. Nothing that alters the plot in any way; the biggest update is that the owl now has a name. The repetitive referral of the owl as "the owl" was one of SockPuppet's main critiques and, as it had been something that I'd debated myself while writing, I was easily swayed into making that change. And if you haven't seen it before, check out the very edifying comment by anonymous browser for a more realistic perspective on rehabilitating raptors and what being injured by a large bird of prey feels like.
If you followed me after reading this story, let it be known that my muse strikes rarely. However, if you liked "In the Grip of Fear", you may also enjoy my other Fluttershy fanfic, "This View of Life", which was my first serious stab at a ponyfic.
I have a third Fluttershy story, "Nature is So Fascinating", but it is more of an experimental attempt at an "educational fanfic". (I did not know about Pineta's work when I started this fic, but I wish I had!) It's been... ooh, some months since I've updated it, but I'll come back to it, I Pinkie Promise.
