Trans Rights · 3:53pm Apr 13th, 2021
I know I haven’t posted a new blog post in a while, I try to avoid news over extended breaks because I tend to want to enjoy them and not constantly be barraged with news. Not having social media helps me with that.
I’m right off the heels of Spring Break, and I’m noticing a couple articles that are really not making me feel good.
I never claimed I wasn’t biased, I’m a trans girl, so I tend to care about trans rights. Although my views on transgender aren’t exactly completely left (mainly that minors should have parental consent (or parental figure consent, at least 1) to get trans surgeries), I still care a lot about trans rights.
A couple of the deep red states, however, really hate trans people.
I’m both surprised and thankful my homestate of Indiana hasn’t decided to go off the deep end. Our red streak seems to be getting bluer recently, and with Pence out, I don’t really fear Indiana will. Eric Holkumb seems like a reasonable guy, and our high religious population might also play a part.
Indiana is by no means the most red state, but we’re still pretty far over there. But Alabama and Texas (who I routinely view as less red than Indiana), along with a couple others I’m probably forgetting have passed anti-trans bills that make me really hate those states in particular.
I’ll mainly focus on Alabama and Texas, because those are the most recent ones.
Alabama recently had a bill passed (but not implemented, thank God) that would make it a crime for any minor to transition at all. I feel like that that’s super far out-there. Like, sure, since minors can’t consent to sex, I feel like at least 1 parent or parental figure should also be on board. Making it a felony for anyone under 18 to transition is insane. You might as well outlaw gender dysphoria. It’s a psychological condition, outlawing it means you don’t even understand what’s happening.
It gets worse.
Texas recently passed a bill (it’s awaiting a vote) that would make any parent consenting to their child’s transition considered a child abuser. I’m sorry. Whoever would think it was right to pass such a thing needs to be asked seriously if they take affirming a gender identity to be on the same level of sexual and physical abuse. This isn’t even the confusion around the psychological/physical condition, this is the government projecting their opinions onto innocent parents and children. It’s not even a religious problem, name the passage in The Bible about letting a child transition being a moral wrong, I’ll wait.
These scenarios are just examples of the government trying to enforce opinion on people who likely don’t even understand how it works because they can. I’m pretty neutral on most issues, but you crossed the LGBT+ Rights line. I’m sorry, you don’t earn my respect for doing something like that.
I think Texas is right about that, if the person you’re trying to transition can’t even drink, get tattooed or drink, that means they’re too young
