GOOD AFTERNOON, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker and Occasional Singer keeping you up to date with the latest news for the Generation 5 movie and beyond! It seems to me that just before the weekend starts we always get one shred of news about the upcoming MLP movie no matter how big or small. With the release of the movie still yet to be determined, since its original theatrical release was cancelled in favor of a Netflix streaming deal, we can rest assure that this does not change the fact that our fans grow ever more curious as to what this feature and it's cast has to offer. Speaking of our cast faithful readers, that leads to the subject of today's blog:
As of today, MLP's official Facebook page has revealed that the five characters just recently announced for the movie are 'officially' the films 'mane' cast. In short, rather than a 'Mane Six', the page has made it seem as if we're having a 'Mane 5' instead. Now before we proceed with this blog, let it be known that this information must be taken by a grain of salt. Even if that rumor is true for the movie, the casting can always change during the actual series set to follow it (More on that subject to come when information on the television run gets underway). But for the time being, it's that time to recap on our 'Mane' cast set to be the highlight of this upcoming movie:
Zipp Storm, sister of Pipp Petals
Pipp Petals, sister of Zipp Storm and self-titled 'Princess of Pop'
Izzy Moonbow, the wandering Unicorn mare
Hitch Trailblazer, 'possibly' Sunny Starscout's love interest
Sunny Starscout, the feisty and idealistic leader
By this point, everyone is probable asking: "Dramamaster, why do we need to be reminded of news you've been telling us about for weeks?". Well it is true that by now we know who's involved with this upcoming feature and to be fair we hardly know much about these ponies in terms of personality (Well, we at least know maybe 'one'). But here's where things really do get fun: While we wait for further film news (And possibly a teaser), I wish to give my faithful fans... an 'opportunity'. Starting today, I'm giving all my readers a chance to not only talk about your favorite member of the cast but we're giving you a chance to vote. Not so much to determine who's the 'best' member of the group as most polls often do, but rather a vote to decide which pony you believe has the most 'appeal'. In a way, it's kind of like putting together a little game, an examination into any pony with plenty of stories to tell (As they've already become popular on FimFiction), and ponies you believe will make a lasting impression on the MLP community.
Overall, there is a remote possibly that instead of a 'Mane Six' much like 'Friendship is Magic' or 'My Little Pony Tales', it seems MLP has declared that instead we shall have a 'Mane 5'. And before anyone brings it up, it's important to note that I AM aware of a rumor concerning a mysterious 'male unicorn' who was revealed through some leak some person managed to uncover. At this point, the identity of this pony has yet to be revealed or whether this pony is a hero, villain, or somewhere in between. But if in the event we do end up with another 'Mane Six', hopefully more information will eventually come within the next few weeks (If not less). There is still much more to discover: Who shall serve as our voice cast? What their personalities are like? What jobs they have (If any at all)? And above all... why do they switch from having their cutie marks on moment to none at all? All those questions we hope to discover for ourselves in some form.
But the bigger question remains: What do YOU think?

Hm...I'm gonna go with Zipp, her color scheme is really cool and her poses show that she might be a more militarian-style Rainbow Dash *cough* Zipp is Tempest's descendant that is my headcanon now *cough cough*
I hope Hitch doesn't become a Spike though, constantly abused because he's so far the only lead male character

That's definitely 'one' point for Zipp. And I can understand what you mean about her color scheme. They are rather breathtaking to look at. And if we were to judge her posing and body language, it is understandable why she gives off that military vibe. While her sister lounges about in the safety of her kingdom, it's likely there must be some pony who feels the need to go out and do all the heavy lifting to ensure the kingdom's safety. And she sure looks like a pony we most certainly won't want to mess with in a fight.
As for Mr. Trailblazer, just because he's the only male lead character thus far, hopefully that does not automatically mean that he's going to get the most abuse. Sure he may come off as cocky and slightly arrogant, judging by his facial feature, but I'm sure deep down he has a strong heart. At least I most certainly hope so.

As for Hitch, I'm not saying he's gonna be a jerk. Some of the show producers of MLP have stated before that "there's simply no room for Spike in a show with six strong female leads" which of course leads to some Spike abuse. I'm just saying that with Pipp, Zipp, Izzy, and Sunny looking like their personalities might be well developed enough on their own, Hitch might have to fall to Spike's role-the helpful assistant who sometimes gets beat up on for no apparent reason other than the characters being oblivious. Hopefully that doesn't happen though, we got enough of that from watching it happen to Spike

I can understand the comparison between Thorax and Pharynx and Pipp and Zipp. The sibling dynamic between the mares may be remotely similar, hopefully Zipp isn't too brutish. Then again, I do understand how you are a major fan of the Changelings.
If we ignore the possibility that Hitch may turn out to be a jerk, the matter of 'There's simply no room in a show with strong female leads' could put Hitch at risk of being similar to Spike. It all goes to show how some people may not feel satisfied: The female leads may get the most development in terms of personalities, but that leaves the male character ending up as the ever helpful assistant who ends up taking the punishment while everyone else is oblivious. But at the same time, it can be a vice-versa circumstance where its the other way around. If this show aims to be as diverse as possible, by having at least 'one' male character even in a team mainly of women, it's only fair he shares the same amount of personality develop as his potential new friends. After all, we do get a brief hint of what we can expect on that interaction between Hitch and Sunny during that one little video.
Five main characters for Gen 5? That's surprising.
Although, I still believe they are keeping the sixth member of Gen 5 a secret.
We got 2 Earth Ponies, 2 Pegasus and 1 Unicorn? Not a balanced cast or in this case, Thanos would says.

As for Hitch, for all we know they have more male characters in store for us, based on this so far systematic way of releasing trailers or pictures of new characters, there might be more to come. You're not wrong though, MLP G4 thrived on the girl power, showing that there's always more than one way to be a girl, and we can see that just by looking at Pipp, Zipp, Izzy, and Sunny that this new movie is continuing that trend. But in G4, there were also some characters that proved there was also more than one way to be a guy, with examples like Spike, Shining, and later on, Garble, Gallus, and Sandbar. If the new movie is going to make sure Hitch doesn't possibly end up this generation's Spike, they're going to have to show that too

You know it's possibility that Hitch won't be the only male main cast member for Gen 5.
There's a rumor/leak that the sixth member of the cast is a male unicorn and i had a feeling that they are keeping the sixth member a secret.
If so, Hitch won't be the only male main cast member of Gen 5.
They did says Gen 5 would be more diversity after all.

Though we likely shouldn't take anything they say too seriously at this point. Things are still being developed and by the time production rolls around they might have decided to remove some characters or change their original comments on what the movie would include

When we take the time to think about it, it's almost not a complete surprise. I mean 'Gen 5' and 'five' mane leads, you almost think you know where Hasbro is going. But then again, we still must address the rumor that there 'was' another pony they've been talking about. Now whether that pony is a sixth member or not, specifically another Unicorn, if the key to the game is 'balance' then it's only fair we do get at least 'one' other unicorn. I mean it's not like we're getting a Bat pony or a Kirin in the group, much to the disappointment of some fans.

Well the theme is centered on unity in a scary, paranoid world. If it's not just centered on women and it's not just centered on the men, it must mean that we should 'all' come together no matter how different we are in terms of gender, beliefs, politics, color, and all the other stereotypes that prevent us from being on cohesive unit as thick as glue.

Well if these pictures are any more cursed, the characters will suddenly leap from out of their portraits (Ala Pinkie Pie), drag the viewer (Like myself) into their realm, and all of a sudden finding ourselves the star of a show that hasn't even gone on the air yet.
