New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Feathered Hearts - Chapter 8 launches Sunday · 11:10pm Apr 17th, 2021

In the end, it all came to me quickly, as did the prereads, and thus I'm releasing it tomorrow—once I've done a few more editing passes and am fully satisfied with it, that is. It's normally a very good sign when I find the writing easy, and my prereaders thus far—AJ_Aficionado, SIlentwoodfire, and Silverblade5—have all said they enjoyed the chapter, which has also sparked no end of discussion from them regarding what should come after.

The new chapter, tentatively titled Expulsion or Asylum, would consist of two parts—a very serious opening section as the fate of Tara and Dana are debated by the two ambassadors, resulting in a surprising resolution, followed by a more lighthearted second half of the chapter as our intrepid human and griffon heroes decide it's time to celebrate and do so with some interesting food and an imported keg of Sweet Apple Acres cider.

It's that last that will be key to the events to follow. In my previous blog, I asked if readers were interested in some early adult action, and the answer was a resounding yes. So the last half of this coming chapter will set it up along with the future launch of an M-rated side story; one whose first story arc would take place immediately following the end of the coming chapter.

Through various machinations, it would (mostly) not be remembered after, and yes, I would have a reasonable explanation as to how it all happened, as discussed in the previous blog as well: The Ibexians would be to credit/blame for the events to follow, and lest people think I'm pulling a Star Trek/Breen on people by continually referencing them without showing them, we would indeed get to meet them later as their machinations were revealed by a single mistake they made out of ignorance of human technology.

But in that context, there will be plenty of things I can do, and I'm happy to say it's already sparked a great deal of suggestions by my prereaders as to what can/should/shouldn't happen. I won't say more for now, but there's a LOT I can do within the parameters I'm setting up without running afoul of personalities or existing desires.

But that's for later, and more information will follow when I start writing it. For now, expect the new chapter to launch tomorrow afternoon or evening, and hope everyone enjoys!

Fortrakt continues to be the most enjoyable character in the story.

God, I can't wait for that M-rated chapter!

It's always interesting when another race/nation/culture is brought into a story. I look forward to seeing what you do with them.

Poor boy has been tortured enough. Let it all out! :pinkiecrazy:

As much as I torment him, I really do like him.

You and everyone else. Seems like I'll have to deliver it sooner rather than later!
