    1950s Sci-Fi Review Bundle (Part 2/?)

So, uh, been a hot minute since I followed up on that little 50's movie review thread I started a while back, huh? Guess my narrative writing isn't the only thing that suffers from sloth. Or rather, I've been sluggish and getting around to posting my mini-reviews here, really, I've already had them written

    Status Update

Hello everyone, or everyone still around. I know I've spoken up in blog posts a few times recently, but I felt like making up a proper status update for where I am writing-wise.

Status Update For Those Still Here · 12:26am Jul 13th, 2021

Just thought I'd drop by and address recent things, both personally and abroad.

First off, I just got back from a weekend vacation in Pennsylvania with the family. We had a good time, all things considered. Went to Longwood Gardens, watched Queen Esther at Sight and Sound theater. Not our most extravagant vacation, but I think we needed it. Helps that we haven't actually had a vacation like this in a couple years.

Secondly, I'm pleased to announce that my summer semester is coming to a close. Lord willing I'll be able to muster up the strength to stave of my procrastination and put extra work into Stallion of Tomorrow. Maybe pushing my luck, but who knows? Maybe I'll even be able to do more than my usual monthly chapter quota.

Now for more recent events around Fimfiction. I saw it as it went down. Not from the beginning and not all of it, but I know full well what's happened and what's been happening since. I won't go too much into depth about it, and other people (some in my follower base) have already summed things up pretty nicely.

Now for what I intend to do. I'll cut to the chase.

I'm staying.

I don't blame the people who have decided to leave in light of current events and the outlook it paints for the fandom. I myself almost got to the point of leaving myself one night. But then...I guess I got to thinking more about it as I calmed down. Got to talking with some very good people who I've had the pleasure of meeting and knowing and talking with. And in the end, I was convinced–by myself more than anything–to stay.

The Brony community has its dark side, and a very sexual one if I may speak bluntly for a moment. That I will not dispute. But see here's the thing...not everybody is awful. It's easy to forget that, both here and in the world, and I really don't blame the people who do. And I think that's what got me to stop and think. This whole thing...it's a microcosm of the world. There are troubles and woes and atrocities...but I think the fact that there was enough of a ruckus raised over it has kind of given me hope in a weird way. Turns out people do take notice of wrongs and they say no.

The fandom isn't hopeless. For all the horrible stuff it's spawned and condoned and turned a blind eye to, I truly believe that. There are good people here. I can prove that. A lot of people probably could if they stopped and looked.

So I'm staying. I know what I stand for and what I stand against. I know what kind of person–what kind of man–I want to be. And even if I'm not going out with an essay of condemnation or a sign of protest, I can at least stand for what I believe in by being it.

Besides, my friend Supermane and I have unfinished business. When I started Stallion of Tomorrow I promised myself that it wouldn't turn into another From Far Beyond; a fleeting idea that I lost faith in and abandoned to the wayside. And one way or another, I'm going to keep that promise. Because I've got a reasonable amount of faith that what I'm writing is something of a good story.

I believe that's all I have to say. Thank you for reading, keep looking up, and have a blessed day.

Very well said, Jade. Very well said.

Yay! Glad to hear. We need more ponies like you around. <3

I'm glad to hear that, Jade. Very glad indeed

Good to see you back, Jade, and well said.

What happened? I haven't been on this site, so I have no idea what happened. Was this a Steven Universe moment where the bronies convinced someone to kill themselves?

It's a really long story that I don't feel like diving back into now that the drama's died down, but...kind of. That and a whole bunch of other cans of worms that were opened up with the circumstances of it all, especially around why they said they were going to do it. Nobody actually committed suicide though.

I'm so glad I don't associate myself with the fandom anymore. I don't feel ashamed when something this monstrous happens. I legitimately feel way happier now than I did before. Take it from me, standing in holy places instead of trying to make them in degenerate places is a far better use of your faith and talent.
