The Reworking of A Rather Large Adventure · 12:36am Aug 15th, 2021
In the week or so after I finally finished A Rather Large Adventure, I decided to go back to the earlier chapters. This time, instead of just cringing, I decided to take firm action. If you want to make your fiction a better place, take a look at it and make a change.
When I published the final chapter, Heaven, earlier this month, the story had 669k words. Now it has 635k words. From the beginning chapter all the way up to the Battle of Mount Aris, I have trimmed down literally thousands of words of filler. In so doing, I have improved certain ponies while retaining their initial characteristics. Several scenes I'm not very proud of were reworded, recontextualized, or cut entirely. I rewrote some scenes to better fit the current canon. Typos and grammatical errors were fixed. Redundant descriptions were chopped out. Tons of unnecessary dialogue was cut. I have improved the overall quality of the story and made it move along much quicker. Newcomers will have a far better experience than most of you who have stuck with me to the end.
It's ironic. When the chapters were first written, my goal was to intentionally bloat them with words so as to hit a tremendous word count and capture the attention of readers searching for longfics. The more words, the more epic the story, right? Now that I'm actually done, I'm going back and slimming it down. Nobody wants filler, even if it's unnoticeable. Those who've recently gone back over the beginning chapters might have noticed this. You'll notice that it's drastically higher in quality now compared to when I started out. This might be my second or third time revisiting these chapters and editing them, but this time, I am satisfied with the overall quality.
Well done Brady! Salute to you for making an amazing story!

I've kind of been slacking off on keeping up with the chapters... I've mainly been focusing on trying to get myself ready for my next college semester, and getting prepared for the orientation of my new job. But, I plan to make up for that by rereading A Rather Large Adventure all the way from the very beginning! Some things I sort of forgot while going through the more intense chapters, so I wanna refresh that so I can get more of a thrill from the story even more.

Wow, fantastic! I wish you luck with that. First things first. With the benefit of hindsight, you can look at past events and go, "Huh. That's what he meant." I'm telling you, man, I love your comments. They are my favorite kind of comment. I look forward to your rereading and your college and your job and whatever!

Oh, I can't wait to get started....
Glad to hear you fixed the earlier errors! Time to read it all over agaaaaaiiiin!
Nah, just kidding, but I'll probably re-read it again at some point. It's a little too early for that right now. Maybe next year, once I've knocked out a few more stories from my "read it later" list.
And speaking of which, I'm finally starting your other story, The Pony of Vengeance, tomorrow. Knowing you, it's gonna be a wild ride.
(Also, just a heads-up, I've got a one-shot lined up for tomorrow that you may like. I just need to finish up the ending.)

Fantastic! I'm overjoyed. I hope you do enjoy it. I've done a bit of reworking on that as well, cutting out bad dialogue and streamlining the story and such. Please, feel free to speak your mind anywhere you wish.
